    Hello,
I don't know if people are aware of this as Bus Éireann don't advertise this service anymore but at 5.05 pm every Friday there is a Non Stop service from Busáras to Kilkee via Limerick and Ennis. I travel on this quite regularly and it's a pity to see it not being put to better usage by Bus Éireann because this could be a real cash cow for them as it leaves at a good time and travels very quickly down from Dublin as it doesn't go through Kildare, Monasterevin, Nenagh, Portlaoise and now Mountrath and Borris in Ossory because of the extension of the motorway and arrives in Limerick usually at 8.20.
This is a very good service as it picks up people outside the Dublin City Council Offices and at Newlands Cross and it doesn't stop again until Birdhill which is its first drop off point. After this it drops people at Daly's Cross, The Hurlers in Castletroy. Usually it arrives into Limerick Station at approx 8.20pm (subject to traffic delays coming down from Dublin).
It then departs Limerick for Ennis, Kilrush and Kilkee at 8.25 (again subject to traffic). It arrives in Ennis station normally at 9.00pm and then departs for Kilrush and Kilkee usually around 9.05pm once the train from Dublin arrives into Ennis as there may be passengers on it for West Clare. According to the outdated timetable in Ennis Bus Station it leaves at 9.25 on a Friday but this is not the case.
Its a pity that Bus Éireann don't advertise this service as it is efficient and it usually is quite timely especially as it arrives into Limerick at the same time as the 4.30 Dublin - Limerick service does. On a tourism note It would bring more people back to West Clare especially in the summer when people are on holidays.

hardly non-stop...limited stop would be more accurate

Sometimes a non stop service goes to Dublin on Sunday evening from Limerick. They always stop at the Hurlers, Daly's Cross and Birdhill.
It is quite good for anyone coming from Dublin to Limerick on a Friday evening, they are down in Limerick a good hour before the 5.30 Dublin - Limerick service arrives in Limerick and it is often in at Colbert Station at the same time as the 4.30 Dublin - Limerick service.

Compare this..... Leaving Dublin at 1.30 for Kilkee on a Friday afternoon, have to change buses in Limerick and again in Ennis for Kilkee. On a decent Friday you may not be back in Kilkee until at least 7.45; depending on traffic and connections from Cork and Galway it may be 8pm or later. That's at least 6 to 6.5 hours travelling. The 5.05pm bus from Dublin to Kilkee on Fridays will be in Kilkee at approx 10.10 pm. That is 5 hours travelling with no changes of buses. Less hassle and easier.

So let's get this straight. A person can't get from Ennis to Dublin on the same train (not according to the schedule) or even Nenagh - but they can get a bus from Kilkee to Dublin. And we wonder why the train loses out to the bus in this country?

No not from Kilkee to Dublin. On a Friday evening you can get a bus direct from Dublin to Kilkee. Its been happening for years. It's a bit of comfort especially if you are working and can't get off work until around 4 or 5 and you live between 35-40 minutes from a rail station. Its also cheaper. It's not just West Clare, if you check the website they do Friday only services to various places.
Actually the train is faring out better in some places especially Ennis/Limerick to Dublin. Bus Éireann have cut their 18.30 Sunday only non stop service from Limerick to Dublin due to lack of numbers. More people are starting to get the train up instead.
