NTL have cut me off at home, is it possible to bring your laptop down to NUI on evenings/weekends and connect to the college internet? do people do this generally? are the study rooms usually open or is it just the library?

you can do it at any time, just go to a WiFi hotspot and connect to NUIGWiFi and sign in with your student id and password. library/reading room should be quick enough during the summer.

I forgot to mention, I'm no longer a student. Is their visitor Wi-fi or anything?

It says something about guest passes somewhere, but I get the feeling they wouldn't be too happy about giving them out.

no, the WiFi is only for students. you need a valid student id to log on to the wifi. it comes an unsecure (no encryption AFAIK) network but it redirects you a page where you need to put in your student id and password.

i don't think there's visitor wifi though. not sure if there's any place in galway that does free wifi. ask in the galway forum though. not ideal but it might tie ya over

You can call into computer services to get access to guest wifi. Not sure if it's available to everyone or if only people who are visiting the campus for official reasons can use it.
