Just a quck question. Is anyone else really pissed off with that
incessant non stop bugling /blowing at the WC games?
It is the most annoying ****ing thing I can remember at a sporting event.

No, this isn't about soccer, it is about a very annoying WC gimmick. The most annoying I can ever remember.

    I find it very annoying.

If the excuse is "but it's their culture," then their culture seems a bit retarded.

I was going to raise that here earlier, but those those pesky nazi Mods would kick me to death..

Yes, I tried watching the Engerland -V-USA gamer earlier and had to admit defeat to the blowing at half time.

Its awful, whats the criac with it?.

    it neutralises the crowd

you can't tell which side the noise is from and if it's approval or not

    bring back chants and booing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 236 ✭✭Doc Daneeka

It's annoying as hell and makes no sense at all. It's just a damn noise. If a child finds something that'll make an annoying noise at least they'll get sick of it after an hour or two! As for culture? If this passes for culture they the South Africans really are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It must be seriously deafening in the stadium, and how the hell the players can concentrate I don't know. I will seriously end up watching less games because of this.

Pft, you haven't heard a vuvuzela til you heard

    this vuvuzela

see below for test fire :D:D

Hard enough to watch on TV, imagine how travelling fans must feel, trying to enjoy the game in the stadium with all that crap going on!

Surprised there hasn't been any riots (yet)!

Indeed, maybe instead of it generating brown noise it generates a pink noise

I've only been near the the TV for two games so far - I noticed the noise all right but didn't consider it particularly worse than the usual background noise at a football match. Aren't there similar sounding things used at all games?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,739 ✭✭✭✭starbelgrade

The vuvuzela has nothing to do with South African "culture" - they were first used in the 70's, but mostly in South America & only became popular in South Africa in the 90's.

They are however, bloody annoying - it was bad enough having to endure them during the Confederations Cup, but now the World Cup too. I wouldn't mind if they were vaguely tuneful, or added to the athmosphere, but they do quite the opposite.

No. Only in South America. You'll hear the odd horn been blown at matches in the rest of the world, but nothing like that incessant racket which drowns out even the noises of the crowd.. all the cheers, boos, oooohs & aaaahs.

Active noise cancellation, could that be used ?

    Like machine gun fire?

It'd work alright. Might not be very ethical, but it would definitely work.

Considering anything with A.N.C letters might work!

So, how do you hear a black man in the crowd?

You hear him blowing another mans horn... :pac:

I think the word Vuvuzela makes quite a good euphemism, as in:
"I wouldn't mind having a go on her Vuvuzela."
    "How big is your Vuvuzela?"

    :D;):p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,688 ✭✭✭Kasabian

What is annoying is that it is drowning out the fans so you can't hear the chanting or whether the referree is infact a wanker , I like to base my opinion on what the majority opinion , it's easier than thinking for myself. :pac:

Not at all, quite the opposite actually.

Quite annoying op, but it's not a gimmick, has been around for some time, unfortunately. Makes the game very unenjoyable to watch. It's really annoying...

if you duck your EQ at 465Hz and 235Hz, you can in fact filter out the buzz with great results. Ideally you'll reduce each frequency by at least 40dB (which got rid of the drone completely for us), but if your equipment can't quite duck that low, just go as low as you can.

Didn't try it it but its supposed to work if you can do it.
