Anyone know about this place? would you go?
    what do you think?

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freetown_Christiania

Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania) is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (85 acres) in the borough of Christianshavn in the Danish capital Copenhagen. From an official point of view, Christiania is regarded as a large commune, but its relation to the authorities has a unique status in being regulated by a special law, the Christiania Law of 1989 which transfers parts of the supervision of the area from the municipality of Copenhagen to the state.
Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, measures for normalising the legal status of the community have led to conflicts, and negotiations are ongoing.
Among many Christiania residents, the community is known as staden ('the town'), short for fristaden ('the freetown').

Danish Hippies are the new Hash Brownies.

Hash brownies is not a nice way to refer to black cannabis users.

school took us there on our exhange trip during transition year. i think they figured we'd go anyway on our own time so better to bring us supervised haha. though most people went back on their own time anyway!
i was straight edge at the time so couldn't care less about all the weed, but it was an interesting little place to walk around, lots of art, a big skate bowl and stuff.

That's a very good example of youth being wasted on the young. :D

A new right wing government in Denmark - the most right wing ever in Scandinavia for that matter - tried to forcefully close Christiania down but failed to do so.

    Long live Christiania!!:)

There's something a little bit similar at Užupis in Vilnius, though it doesn't have quite the same recognition in law.

I've never been to Christiania, Užupis is quite pleasant to wander around, it's basically the artists' / bohemian quarter, a bit idiosyncratic but to my mind at least slightly tongue-in-cheek.

Most people I know who were there were somewhat disappointed by it. Obviously the cannabis is of interest to some people, but if you want to see autonomous social entities go to the Seomra Spraoi and the related buildings in Dublin, or have a look at how some communities in the north have weathered occupation, such as in Derry for example.
