Not recognising my profile

When trying to get into my laptop today I am getting the message after the password stage to say the system doesn't recognise my profile and I can't go any further.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can fix it?

try f8 ,reboot, safe mode, create new profile or new guest account, use simple password say asdfg.use arrows ,up,down, enter key to select safe mode type.

F8 isn't doing anything for me. I'm not sure what I might be doing wrong.

you turn on pc holdown f8 key until safe mode menu appears ,depending on pc speed could take 4 minutes.hold down key for ten seconds wait 5secs , hold down for another 60 seconds.
or google windows vista safe mode faq.
    see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode
ie press f8 be4 the windows logo appears ,ie just after pc start up display.
    eg intel dualcore 2 cpu,ram , hd info dell 2.oghz 2gig vram .
let it show bios ,cpu, ram,hd , then hold f8.pc on wait 5 seconds.
