Just following on from the comments from Scott Gibbs after the SA match there what do we think of a concurrent season worldwide? March-September.Also the laws question was brought up aswell but im interested in what do people think of all our rugby leagues and tournaments being held at the same time?
Obviously it woula affect everything we are used to here but can anybody see the positives of such a season?

I don't like summer seasons for winter sports.

It is one of our major problems though. Rainy conditions give you more time to rest, and slow the tempo down big time.

Nice idea of course but almost impossible to co-ordinate and would clash with the existing non-international competitions. Trying to get sponsors, unions etc to agree on tenets would take years.

as a player i always adapted better to cold december games than to hot may games

for countrys like italy and france that can get very hot during the summer i dont think its a good idea for player (and sunburnt fan) welfare.

it would be a huge almost fundamental change to the game.

its a nice idea but in practice almost impossible.

I believe the French summers are the reason this hasn't/won't happen. Pity, I always feel an Irish summer is perfect for rugby.

    Terrible Idea.

Who wants to play rugby on hard ground?

I don't think it would never work.

The game in the northern hemisphere ties in with the academic calendar year.
The schools game, the basis of Irish rugby wouldn't function if we played during the summer, teachers who generally are the coaches are less likely to want to coach during the holidays, and players will be less willing to play. U20's would suffer, similarly J4, J3, J2 and to some extent J1 and 1sts, as many of these players are in college and go away for the summer, so wouldn't be available to play.

It technically possible at the highest levels, however extremely prohibitive due to tradition, sponsorship weather etc. But it would never work at lower levels and would ruin the game imo.

I've played for years on what is considered a 'hard' surface. One thing is for sure, better rugby.
Still unfeasible to allign the seasons.

doubt a concurrent season will ever happen but, from an Irish perspective, I would like to see a few Irish players get a season or 2 of rugby down there to improve.
While the European comps are better for excitement and entertainment, the Super 14 is full of better players. I believe if we are ever to compete with the Big Three we need to get our players playing consistently down there to get up to speed. Sacrificing a season of rugby up here to improve down there is something that I really think needs to be considered.

Eh, big no. Sounds nice for the pros, not fair on all the Junior players. Half of us would die in heat like we had in Dublin today

You'd get used to it. Would be one hell of an unpleasant learning curve though. I played a game of football in tropical Brazil once and came close to collapsing. :p
