Can i attend to see a sick relative?

Hello,

I have applied for Disability Allowance as my doctors opinion suggested that im unfit for work for prolonged period of time. I have also applied for Supplementary Welfare Allowance which i received straight away (post office every week), while i wait for my DA to be processed which i was told about 3 months?

I may/i hope not! will have to travel to Spain for 2-3 days to see a sick relative. Is that possible?! I have heard that you will be disqualified from receiving SWA if you leave Ireland. Is there any truth to this?!

but there's a good chance that if you explain the circumstances to the Community Welfare Officer, your few days visit to your sick relative would be allowed on compassionate grounds and, in the worst scenario, they would simply deduct those days from your payment rather than cease your claim.

Thanks for the reply, that makes sense to speak to the officer..

Another option, what if im able to arrange my travel between the signing dates?! Would that be ok? Or will they inform the office that i went to 2-3 days?
