The laptop screen can be seen very very faintly as in it's nearly complete darkness but if in right light you can squint and make out icons. It is working fine otherwise,i looked around google and from reading thought it was the inverter going but reading a few threads here some say the backlight. How do i tell the difference between inverter or backlight failure?

Backlights shouldnt be going out. The inverter is usually the first thing to go. You can find the part easily enough and personally i think the thing looks easy as piss to replace.

should be. I've already replaced the screen on mine once after I destroyed it... in comparison, that thing looks way simpler.
