    DIY issue? no really comsumer?

Try positing what the finish of the stove is, you don't clean an enamel finish the same way you clean a plain black paint finish.

Is it metallic or matt finish??

Metallic - just hot water and fairy washing up liquid should do the trick

Matt finish - first use soapy hot water and then a baby oil to shine it up ;)

Matt finish - I use Olive Oil as it doesn't smell to bad as it burns off next time you light the stove. But I sometimes use Zebraline or Zebrite stove polish to get a really nice black finish. Both Zebraline or Zebrite do leave a finish that can rub off on clothes and smells a bit to start with when the stove heats up but done right (messy job) looks very good even on stoves that have started to go rusty.
