Need to program remote 318is

Hi folks,

I bought a bmw 318is which i'm restoring. It's a '97 Jap import. The other day the remote for the central locking stopped working, the batteries had died. Changed them, but as the batteries were out for a period of time the remote for the locking needs to be re-programmed apparently! Have looked at various forums and have tried all the suggestions - turning key in the ignition 5 times, holding unlock while pressing lock button 3 times etc....nothing is working!

Any suggestions would be appreciated! Its the key with 2 buttons, round button in the centre locks the car, smaller one at the bottom of the key unlocks.

The majority of Jap import BMW's have infra-red keys - don't think the same procedure works

Thanks for the replies people, going to print out that pic Mondeoman it looks like it might do the job, and if not i reckon i'll find my answer on that BMW forum...
