Thai holiday at Christmas 2010

    Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me. We are arriving in Koh Samui on 24th December 2010 and lots of people have been telling me that we shouldnt book any hotel until we get out there (i.e in Bangkok the day or two before)
My problem is: I have been researching various hotels in Koh Samui and the large majority of them are showing "no availabilty for your selected dates" and I'm begining to panic as its 6 months before our arrival and it seems booked up now.

Has anyone visited any Thai resort over Christmas before and can you advise if I should book in advance or is it safe to wait??

Any advise is greatly appreciated...........thank you biggrin.gif

    Don`t worry,
I have been a couple times over Chrstmas in the past and plenty of accomodation available.
Get them to drop you in Chaweng from the airport, have a look around for something to sleep in the first night then take a proper look the next day.
Make a list of your favourite hotels and I bet if you rock up to most of them they will have availability for you.

We are flying with KLM from Dublin to Bangkok (via Amsterdam) and back to Dublin from Hong Kong (via Paris) for €1700 rtn for the 2 of us. I booked this in February and I priced around alot first. We choose this not just for price but flight times are nice and there are short stop overs. We have some accomodation booked also (Bangkok, Chaing Mai adn Hong Kong) so if you want a researched opinion (obviously not an experienced one) drop me a message and I will give you as much info as I can. Hope you both have a nice time.

Thank you very much for this post, you have put my mind at ease. I was also considering Koh Phangan for a few nights (maybe 3) and then Koh Samui for 5 or 6, what do you think? I'm worried that this is not worth the hasstle as someone I recently met said we should just go to Koh Phangan on a day trip. Thank you again.
