Thinking of doing an evening course 1 place awards fetac level 6 and is €500 for the year the other is hetac level 6 and €2200 is it the same qualifcation?

does that mean hetac level 6 and fetac level are the same cause they overlap?

Since you are not getting any replies, I will offer my understanding of the situation. Level 6 is certificate level. If you do a fetac course you will have a cert (and in some cases that is all that people want) but it will not automatically follow that you will get onto year two of a degree or diploma course.

If you do a hetac course you will almost certainly be doing the first year (cert) of a three or four year course and if you get the marks you would be able to continue on to diploma and degree.

Are these both full certificates you are being offered, or is it just module(s) towards the cert. You need 8 modules for a cert, in Fetac anyway.

ill try to keep this simple...........

fetac {usually 1-2 years long} {level 5/6} is pretty much useless......its only use to you would be as somthing to put on your cv if you were going for some terrible job like in a call centre or somthing..........its what they teach in fas .....you can actually do it in fas and they,ll pay you.........

hetac {usually 4 years long} is the official college degree..you,ll get it in trinity or dcu...its the type of degree that american colleges like harvard e.t.c would give {they wouldnt do anything lower than it}............hetac is the level qualification required for good career jobs,,,,,,,,,for example if a job in I.T is advertised they will advertise for a position and expect you to have gained a hetac qualification in that position.....a fetac in it simply wont be enough as its like doing foundation level instead of higher level in your leaving cert........

to put it in 1 sentence-if you have some spare time and just want to improve your cv sure go get a fetac {but i know people 18-20 years old who have about 10 of them and are on the dole}..........if you want a career in a certain field like medicine-computers-business you need to do hetac.......even then you may need to go on from hetac

have a look at this pic it explains what each lv and hetac/fetac are.....

Hetac level 6 is certificate level, as is Fetac level 6, though they are not necessarily the same course.

If you stay on and get an honours degree you will be at hetac level 8. You do not get a degree with hetac level 6, but it can be part of a degree course.
You can do fetac level 6 and be admitted to the second year of a degree course, you need to check that the local providers of fetac and hetac have an agreement on this though.

Hetac levels 9 and 10 take you up to a doctorate. The HE of Hetac is Higher Education as against Further Education of Fetac. No matter which college you go to here you are still in the Hetac/Fetac system.
