    Driving a 2005 Ford Mondeo 1.8 lx 110ps.
I am getting around 500 miles/ 800 kilometres to the tank.
This averages out to about 38 miles per gallon.
If I was to change to a 1.6 or 1.8 Avrnsis would I return the same economy.
I would buy a 1.4 but friends of mine have them and find it hard to return 34/35 miles per gallon.

It doesn't matter (that much) what you drive, but how you drive it. Your driving style and road conditions make the biggest impact on your car's fuel economy.

500 miles to a tank is not bad at all;)(62 litre tank,i think?)
we have a 2003 1.8 zetec & we get nowhere near that:(

EDIT- 58.5 litre Tank according to Handbook.

38 mpg from a large petrol saloon is pretty good. I'm guessing its country rather than city driving. You'll be hard pressed to find any petrol car of similar size or even focus sized that will be significantly more economical. If fuel economy is your bag you need a diesel.
