    Hi Folks,
Dump ass question. I've got a mobile home down in wexford and as usual the tv reception is crap. anyway, I was wondering if there is a way of hooking up a cheap digital receiver to the old TV?
Do they come with an Coax out port so I can hook this into the TV?

    Thanks
    Admiral

Some do, some don't better picture via Scart. No Scart on TV?

You can use an old VHS as a composite SCART to RF convertor

Digital might not be better. You may simply just need a better aerial.

Or you can use a 50cm dish and second hand Sky Digibox (they have RF modulator). ALL main UK channels free, but no Irish TV without basic Sky Sub.

    Thanks Watty.
I'm very confussed by all the acronyms. What type should I be looking for?

SCART connector on back of Satellite or DTT or VHS or DVD player or TV
    220px-Scartsocks.jpg
    from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART

VHS = Video Home System = Video Tape Recorder. Select Monitor SCART and the built in RF out "male" that connects to TV (Aerial is then plugged into female RF in to Feed VHS tuner and TV) then feeds TV with external SCART signal.

Older Satellite Decoders all had SCART and RF out. Newer ones don't have RF out.

Digital TV can be by UPC (Ex Chorus /NTL) Cable or MMDS (subscription only), Satellite (Free or Subscription, Sky Digibox, Freesat box or other ) or in a few places by Aerial.

The Aerial based Digital Service has not "launched" yet in Ireland, so even if you can get it with a DTT set-box, (freeview models from UK won't work), there is no TV3.

Each kind of Digital TV service uses an incompatible box, Cable, ex NTL MMDS, ex Chorus MMDS, Aerial based (Digital Terrestrial, DTT, Freeview, Saorview, French TNT) or Dish based (Satellite, FTA, Sky, Freesat).

    So you need to know
    1) If your TV has SCART or not.
    2) If if no SCART, you need a Set-box receiver with an RF out, or use an old VHS as a SCART to RF convertor.
    3) Which kind of Digital TV signal you are going to use. Aerial based signal service is not launched yet in Ireland. Irish channels on Digital (cable or Satellite) need a UPC or Sky subscription.
    4) All the main UK channels are perfect quality and free via a Dish and ANY Digital Satellite Receiver (Out of Contract or subscription Sky, Freesat box or "generic" FTA Set-Box.

You may just need a better outdoor aerial.
