So who here is interested in cosplay?

    http://www.cosplay.com/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosplay

I'm a big fan of it myself, I've probably cosplayed about a dozen characters by now.

The two current ones I'm working on are Black Rock Shooter and Asuka's Plugsuit.

Only a few minor details I need to do for BRS, other than the bigass cannon.
But for the plugsuit I'm taking my time, I have the bodysuit down perfect and I just need to make the armour pieces on the chest neck and shoulders and I'm pretty much done!

Anyone else got a cosplay their working on or can't wait to wear?

Gonna cosplay Arakune from BlazBlue at this years Eirtakon, seeing as how the guest voiced Arakune :P

hey I am going to be working on Rei Ayanami plugsuit, hopefully start on it this Summer. Maybe we could cosplay or shoot together sometime if interested. I have been looking for other Eva cosplayers. I plan to work on Asuka's test suit too.

    I love cosplay!

I've only done 2 so far, Soi Fon from Bleach and Ayane from Dead or Alive.

I'm working on Aya Natsume for this year's Eirtakon.

I couldn't imagine going to a con without cosplaying. It's great fun and I love seeing other cosplays.

never knew there were any irish conventions/cosplayers...

i've always wanted to try cosplay, i was thinking of going as Edward Elric to a haloween party a couple of years back, being as i am, a sort of short dude with long blond hair... I'd love to try making his automail arm too, i found instructions at http://amethyst-angel.com/armormaking_automail.html a while ago, and it doesn't look too hard...

I only let my dark secret of cosplaying out a Halloween, but does the below count a as costume. i think at some point you start entering the argument of mech versus armour and wear vs pilot.

I was kinda half thinking of throwing an Ushiromiya Battler costume together. Any excuse to own a suit that isn't black I suppose, lol.

Dear Lord Varik, you are a hero! Yes, that counts as a costume. You are wearing it for fun after all.

I'm struggling a bit with choosing my cosplays, I always have too many to choose from. At the minute I'm trying to eliminate Teto Kasane (technically a fake Vocaloid), Prima (Vocaloid), Medusa (Mythology) Lily White (Touhou) Rabi-en-Rose (Digi Charat) and any random characters that take my fancy. And I still have to finish my nurse's cap for Nurse Joy.

I'm right there with you mate! I'd love to give it a go sometime. Also very annoying that none of my mates are into Anime/Manga

No worries! Come to a convention in cosplay and you'll find you make friends very quickly. Cosplaying as a popular character gives you and a person who spots you and recognizes the costume something to talk about straight away!

are there actually many conventions in ireland though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Missiechan

There certainly is. Not as many as England or the States, but we have enough.

There's Nom-Con (http://www.nom-con.com/) which is happening at the end of this month.

    Eirtakon (http://eirtakon.com/vbdrupal/) in mid-October.

BroCon (http://brocon.skynet.ie/) which has just gone by.

And Qcon (http://www.q-con.org.uk/) which has also gone by recently.

All of these conventions have cosplay events, you really should check them out!

I'm always watching you, Chris. One day I'll assume your identity and use it to buy shoes on your credit cards.

I didn't go to Q-con but from looking at the gallery I have to say that the cosplays were very impressive. Sorry I didn't go.

    VERY IMPRESSIVE !!

Did you make that or buy it? And if you made it- how?! Wow.

I think there is a little misunderstanding here. That costume has been done by an American special effects company. Here is the link http://www.devicemag.com/2010/06/26/animatronic-halo-elite-costume-will-have-you-screaming-wart-wart-wart/

    It is impressive.;)

There's something wrong with that link. It freezes my computer.

Anyhooo, what made me think it was privately done was that it appears to be in someone's back yard.

I have to say that is a very cute cosplay. I have notcied a lot of cute and erotic Pikachu and Pokemon cosplay which some are quite good.

I really like cosplay because you can go where you want with it. It is very diverse as you can do burlesque, eechi, cute, anime, manga, Western comics, alternative and computer game, steampunk, ect cosplay. It allows you to be creative and try out new things. It is also great for getting out there working with other people and meeting people.
