Toe pain!

I've just finished the couch to 5k programme, and did the women's mini marathon (very slowly!) last week.

During the mini-marathon, and on a slow 5k last night, I got some pain in the toes of my left foot. It was the middle three toes, and they felt like they were 'splayed' a bit too much, as if I was pushing off just using those toes and bending them back too much. I loosened my laces around the toe box and this seemed to help a bit. I'll try my next run with the laces looser to see if that helps, but I don't want to have them too loose or my heel will be sliding around.

My question is, do you think this is to do with the shoes (Asics Kayano 16, after gait analysis), or my too-tight lacing, or form? Has anyone experienced anything like this before and dealt with it?

    Thanks

Cheers, I'll give that a go.

If you've got pain when not in the running shoes, say you flex and extend your toes while barefoot or with your hands and you still have pain - your best bet is to get it checked out.

Nope, it seems to be fine once I've finished running. It just feels like the bottom of the toes have been rubbing off the sole of the shoe, but the skin isn't raw or anything. It only cropped up yesterday after about 3 or 4 km. I'll play around with the laces and see if that remedies the situation.

If it's still bothering me in a bit I'll get it checked out - cheers!

I went for a run last night with looser laces around the toe box, and all seemed fine. There was a very small amount of tenderness towards the very end, but it didn't go beyond that. I think I changed my pushing off a little too - more of a rolling action than pushing off with 'tippy toes'! I'll keep going with the looser laces!

    Thanks for all your help.

I also have trouble but it's in my big toe on my right foot, after running 6 or 7 miles the joint where the big toe meets my foot starts getting very sore, the soreness goes once i'm finished my run. I am fairly heavy (15 stone) and put it down to the impact of my foot with the road, this must be the part of my foot I always land on. I have done gait analysis so don't think it's the runners. Anyone else ever had this?
