    Hi,

recently I managed to scratch someone's car while parking. i left my details and the guy came back. We agreed that he will get a quotation for repair and I will than decide whether to claim it from insurance or pay it out of pocket. It turned out it is just under 600 and I decided to pay it out of pocket. I'm wondering how to do it as I probably need some confirmation that I've paid for the damage for my protection. The guy wants me to pay cash as he wouldn't give his account details to a stranger.

    thanks for advice.

Pay him by bank draught or cheque. That way you will have a record of it.

€600 for a scratch? Must of been across a few panels?

I'd print up a contract and both of you sign it and give him a bank draft for the name of the repairer so that he isn't pocketing a few quid out of it.

If it was me I'd have gotten a quote from a repairer I know also, to compare prices and make sure I was been taken for a ride.

Is it possible for you to pay the garage directly.
That way you know you are not being ripped off and you can get the reciept from the garage and give and a copy to the car owner. You can keep the original seeing as you are paying for it.

it was a bmw and I hit a bumper and wheel arch. nothing major but he was told in garage that there is some bracket broken or so.
Can I get a form for such a contract somewhere?

600euro seems a lot for a scratch. Ask to speak to the guy who's doing the repair or for an estimate and get him to sign something when paying.

I wish the person that scratched my back bumper was a genuine as you OP.

Fair play for owning up and leaving your number.

But dont let yourself be ripped off either €600 seems a lot, I presume its from a BMW dealership?

I guess so. I double-checked it with some bmw dealership straight after accident and was quoted 360 but it was just for the scratch I didn't know about brackets. 570 seems like bmw dealership price to me. but I'm just guessing, I don't drive bmw.

    LOL €300 for clips

Sounds a bit dodgey to me, although if you hit the quarter panel then I can see the €600.

And as draffordx said, fair play for owning up.

Afraid €400 to €600 sounds about right for a scratch these days...

Text might help, but isn't legal advice.

I (name of owner of damaged car) have received from (your name) the sum of €X in full and final settlement of all and any damages arising from a minor traffic accident in (location) on (date).

Well if you have damaged two panels, it isint to bad. Remember if you are painting anything but a bumper you will more than likely have to blend into ajoining panels, if you have scraped his QTR it will have to be painted and blended into his rear door. If it is silver its very important that its blended correctly. You probally broke a bumper retainer, theres on on each end of any bumper they can range from € 30-80.

So in all 600 squid aint that bad.
