Vodafone and unlocking codes

I want to buy a HTC desire from Vodafone but i'm currently on Meteor and very happy with them too. I have a family member who has a vodafone sim card and they've topped up by 127euro in the last 6 months. Does this mean that I can get the unlocking code if I upgrade from their account? or would I have to wait till the 125…

Does anyone know if they are vodafone branded ? I think at the start they were all sim free and unbranded but from the looks of the vodafone forum they seem to have reversed that now.
