Had been inquiring from Digiweb about Metro but all they could offer was their Satellite package which I thought was a bit expensive (installation wise and speeds didn't seem great.

Have one wireless company less to decide on...but they are offering equal upload and download which isn't a bad thing but download speed isn't as quick then but I am thinking about it.

Have also thought about imagine and their 4G, contacted them tonight as its hard to know if you in coverage. They are getting a lot of bad press though but other posts people have no issues.

I did however find this company and I wonder is there a catch as prices seem a lot lower and speeds better than Digifone satellite package...

At the moment I am on a dsl line 800K that's dropping connections and its getting annoying...

    Any comments etc thanks.

Looking at it again it probably the same thing as the Digiweb. Prices are close enough before the discount

Maybe more room for faster downloads maybe...

Those packages you see on the Skydsl site are for 1-way satellite systems only. You still need your telephone line dialed up in order to get online.

However, Skydsl are launching their own 2-way Satellite service in the coming days which is very comparable to digiweb's Tooway satellite service.
The equipment will cost less than €500 and you can finance it with them over 36 months if needs be. I think you can even install it yourself if you wish.
Ooh...and there is no download limit.

Ooh...and there is no download limit.

Well there is, the amount of acks and nacks the dialup can spit out at them :D The uplink will be max 33k. You may be better off using mobile BB for the upload .....EDGE could trump dialup :D

Skydsl have a history of being quite cheap and nasty but the best of a cheap and nasty lot of one way sat operators.

What part of the state are you in OP ???

I was referring to their new 2-way satellite service been launched.

However SkyDSL had a VSAT service before that wasn't very good. Even their name is deceptive.

No download limit on Satellite? Ha Ha! Pull the other. They just are not saying what it is.

There is very little Irish Satellite capacity till Kasat and/or Hylas come on line (if ever) in Oct/Dec 2010 time frame.

It's nonsensical Sat resellers offering self install. It's a hazard to other Satellite up links. Two way Satellite should ONLY be professionally installed. Ideally with a spectrum analyser and talkback from Hub/Earthstation. Especially with smaller dishes (if a 1.2m to 2.4m is not aligned correctly you probabily get nothing,).

I still have one wireless BB company to use might be better to use them.

Its symetrical broadband 1mb and 2mb.
The only reason I was hesatiant about it is the speed and if there had been any other options that were cheaper but I think its probably the best now.

The equipment would be less sightly as well
Wouldnt need the landline to be in use or another mobile for dial up (although I don't think I'd go with that anyway I'd prefer if it were two way so it great that I seen that now.

especially as I have already got a number of antennas UHF, VHF and a Dish on a vertical pole on the side of the house with out adding another dish. The neighbours would be wondering :D
    I'm located just outside Galway.

2Mbps symmetrical fixed wireless will be about 10x better latency or better than Satellite.
A 3.6Mbps Satellite Service costing over €200 a month is likely poorer speed and similar Cap to the 2Mbps Fixed Wireless service.

Satellite is the most expensive bandwidth and traffic, by up to x5 or x10 in reality. Contention can be very high on a transponder shared by half of Europe.

I have now 7 aerials and 3 dishes. I'm not sure what the neighbours think now. See:

new additions are the two lower aerials:

    Thanks for all the replies,

Previous to this we had an directional antenna and an omni as well as a mmds for television before we took it down for the free to air dish.

Moved the directional and omni to a shed and put a small directional on the house to reduce the weight. I'm relaying the broadband to my own house as well next door via the omni.

We were getting concerned about the wind pulling the whole lot down...
