Anyone know how long the drink driving ad with the boy in the yellow T-shirt has been on RTE?

My partner & I are having a difference of opinion, would be great to be able to settle our 'argument'..

It's only back very recently-it was off air for a long while.
    It's years old though.

It's kinda funny that the thing you remember is the yellow t-shirt. :pac:

If it is that Fleetwood Mac one, then close to the 10-year mark at this stage...

About 7 years ago I'd say. It was originally a National Safety Council ad and was rebranded to the RSA when it was established in 2006.

EDIT: 10 years if this article is correct... http://www.independent.ie/national-news/can-drivers-be-shocked-out-of-that-one-for-the-road-359619.html

Its a male singer, dunno if its a Fleetwood Mac song.

I think it was first out in the early naughties either 2001 or 2002.....

    My partner thinks 2004..

I remember the T-shirt cos when I saw it first I thought the driver was the guy all grown up.

Thought it was older, Karsini? I'd have thought the same time as Mollzer says...

Thanks for all replies! Knew Boards would solve the query!

I wasnt far out, had a feeling 2001 was when I saw it on the telly.

    Times flies.

Did you ever notice in the other one (the one where the couple are hit while kissing against a wall) that the girl in it looks really like young posh spice.

What fleetwood mac song is in the ad you are talking about? Thats going to annoy me

And yet people continue to drink and drive, and put other people's lives in danger.....

People do that because they can.
In fairness the Guards are doing checks, the RSA are running ads on awareness & there is a general feeling of someone having contracted leprosy if they mention drinking & driving.
Organisations can only do so much, it comes down to the individual whether they want to drink & drive.

Almost all major bands are signed up to music publishers. The publisher's job is to ensure that all royalties are collected from public broadcasting of the band's music on TV, radio, in public places etc.

They also actively try & get the music used in the likes of films, documentaries, TV adverts etc, but usually have to consult with the musicians beforehand to ensure that they are OK with endorsing the products / films etc.

It always struck me then, as quite odd, that a band would allow their music to be used in a road safety campaign. I always wonder if they introduce it at gigs with, "Here's a song of ours from our 3rd album - you might remember it from the TV ad where the girl who looks like Posh Spice gets hammered up against a wall by a car & ends up with a dead boyfriend & a lifetime confined to a wheelchair.... feel free to join in at the chorus."

The kid must be 19 years old by now, so that means he can drive a car, I wonder is he a careful driver.

Maybe you misinterpreted my post. I am not lamblasting ads or government efforts at stopping drink driving at all, I am simply saying that people continue to drink and drive, selfishly putting other people's lives at risk, even though they know the dangers of it, highlighted by these ads.

Yeah, ten years old, my little brother was about 8 when it came out and I couldn't watch it, really freaked me out. He was 18 last Friday. Mother used to buy yellow tee shirtt for him, he'd only wear them playing hurling in the garden!!

Even now I have nearly broken the remote getting it off the telly. Even the 1st few notes and it's gone.
