Floor pump

    Hi all
I bought a floor pump, a Beto CMP-072SG1 (says it fits Shcrader and Presta valves). I have a question about making it work :o Please bear with me here as a newbie and a completely un-mechanically-minded person. The pump head looks far too big to fit the wee valve on my tyres. The wee hole bit looks about a cm wide and I think (looking at the instruction card) you need a valve cap, a rubber washer and a plastic adapter on top of the wee hole to make it suitable size to fit the valve. So, should the valve cap rubber washer and plastic adapter have come with it? Do you go and get these separately? If so, how do you know what size to get?
    Thanks for reading

(My lesson in basic bike maintenance is pending :o)

The head on the end of the rubber tube should have two holes in it, one with an x-shaped part inside the hole, one without. The former is for Schraeder valves (the ones you find on cars), the other is for Presta valves.

You just screw the dustcap off your valve and press on the head, using the hole appropriate to your valve. No extra equipment should be needed.

Edit: if you have Presta valves, you have to unscrew the floating pin before putting on the head.

I found this in a review of the same brand of pump. I think they mean that there is an adapter "hidden" inside the lever that flips out to lock the pump head onto the valve.

As a pump it works fairly well but the gauge doesn't seem to be anywhere near accurate. Also, I wasn't sure that it would fit my bikes which require the narrow, deep connector. The basic connector on the pump is the sort that fits a car. Finally I noticed that the toggle thing on the connector that you put onto the valve actually has an adapter secured inside it. Some documentation which indicated that would have been nice. I had planned to return it but it does the job well enough.

    You may have to

    1) Unscrew the front bit:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=116568&stc=1&d=1276215859

    2) Like so:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=116569&stc=1&d=1276215870

    3) Dig out the internal bits:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=116570&stc=1&d=1276215882

    4) Like so:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=116571&stc=1&d=1276215893

    5) Rearrange all the bits inside so the thin or wide bit is to the front and screw it all back in:
    attachment.php?attachmentid=116572&stc=1&d=1276215904

After taking a look at the pump online, I believe you just unscrew your valve on the tube, press it in momentarily to break the seal, attach your pump head to the valve, pull back the lever, which should lock the valve head onto the valve-Hey Presto!!

It would have taken me longer to explain with words since I don't know the names of any of the parts.

Yes, it sounds like there are bits missing (important bits). Once you have those you can proceed as above. If they didn't come with the pump you should return it.
