So I'm new to the Mac universe. Anyone got any app recommendations for me? What's out there that's a must have? Etc.

Handbrake for ripping your DVDs into iTunes
VLC is a useful media player
Tooble for downloading videos from Youtube
VirtualBox for running different OSs within Snow Leopard

    DFD.

PS. What do you want to do? Or what did you do pre Mac?

Browsing, office productivity, accounting software and similar. I'm more looking for general useful stuff tbh.

safari is clean and snappy - chrome if you need a lot more extensions - firefox is slow for the time being.

open office is must - better than pages and word imo.

accounting software well i recommend iwork or office or emulate the software you used on windows before.

Browsing: Safari and Google Chrome are the best

Office Productivity:I would go for a copy of office for mac because its much handier for saving and making sure the files are compatible with windows, iwork saves the .doc files etc as copies of the documents iwork extension which can get a bit confusing.

Accounting software:Excel?...MYOB Accountedge is very good.

    Anything else let me know

GlimmerBlocker - A proxy based ad blocker for web browsers

    NTFS-3G - NTFS file system read/write access

    Burn - Advanced disc burner

If you are worried about compatibility - openoffice is your man.

"Perian" will add codecs to quicktime to make it useful, "dropbox" is very handy for backing up/sharing files, "transmission" and "utorrent" are good for torrents, i like "istat menus" for geeky graphs in your menu bar, "f.lux" changes the colour temperature of your screen at night to match ambient light (and helps you sleep better because of it), "Things" is a cool todo app (but you have to pay for it), i'd second "glimmerblocker" as a proxy based ad blocker, "Adium" is good for IM (msn/gtalk/twitter).

I suggest osx.iusethis.com as a nice site to search for more obscure utilities.

A few others that haven't been mentioned:
    plex for media center
1password for managing passwords (a must buy imo)
    sabnzbd for usenet
    netnewswire for rss
transmit for ftp/sftp/s3/webdav (well worth the money)
    cleanapp for removing apps

Regarding accounting software: I work in a small company which uses TioLive and I think they were right to choose it. It works very well for all our team. (it does not only manage accounting but also ohter features like the CRM).

That looks more like an alternative health remedy site not an accounting software site! :p

Atm, using Sage through VMWare. Works well.

I like your sense of humor :) You are free to think that if you want. But if we've choosen TioLive at the beginning it was because we knew it was based on ERP5 which has already proven its ability http://www.erp5.com/demo/try

If you want to have details on the accounting part, you have some explanations in this section: https://www.tiolive.com/en/feature/tiolive-accounting

I'll take a close look at it. If only to see how good open source accounting software has gotten! Looks interesting alright.

Ok :) Then, once you've tried, please give me some feedback! I would be curious to know what a user of Sage will think about it.

    Hi everyone

@nesf: What's up? Did you have some time to test TioLive during the week-end? As a Sage user, what do you say?

agree Finder is a bit lacking, I use Path Finder which is brilliant.
