It doesn't look that bad to be honest, if I was looking for something like that and the price was right and it was a decent repair job i'd buy it no problem.

    ^^^^

I agree that it doesn't look that bad but who knows what wrong with it that we cannot see.

Was the chassis twisted in the crash?

Was the chassis twisted in the crash?

Like I said, if it's fixed properly it shouldn't be a problem.
Just reading the BMW forum there i'd be more concerned about all the add on sh!te than the damage to be honest, some guys just don't know when to stop, nice wheels though!!

I think the fact that its been fro sale so many time by so many owners over the last while means that its not totally kosher.

I think its down to people looking at the ad and then reporting the seller

atleast he admitted it was a cat D writeoff, although im doubtful of that

Couldn't be from looking at the damage in that picture and the list of items from the original owners listed on the BMW owners forum.

Shocking, anyway anyone who would buy an M3 from someone who can't put up a proper ad with correct spelling is looking for trouble.

When they say " ,hi polish " in the ad , are they making a remark about the paint or are the just being very friendly to an entire nation !!!

Reported the ad, got a reply that the seller assured her that the car was roadworthy, nct'd and taxed.

Yeah that's great, he's still completely misrepresenting how much damage it suffered.

Wouldn't have touched it with a poll before reading the list of damage done..
    http://www.bmw-driver.net/forum/showpost.php?p=163120&postcount=11

i got an estimate of 20k to fix it

    parts needed

    xenon lights
    bonnet
    bumper
    front window (1200 new)
    plastics behing bumper
    2x wings
    door
    rear bumper
complete interior (front end of car submerged n water)
new engine (suspected conrod damaged pistons) aire intake sucked in water and was non runer
    airbags
    rear roll bar reseting

oh yeah, the electrics went crazy and windows started going up and down days later
then of course the labour and paint.

all of the above was hoping there was no other damage found while repairing.

why would you report the ad if you dont mind me asking?
its for sale, its cheap, the ad tells you it was Cat D.......... the owner is not a liar and he is not trying to get you to western union the money and collect the car in the UK, i just dont get it?????

imo the OP is only warning people about its history and to make sure they know what they are buying.

no affilliation to the car or owner btw.

Is there no law in this country to protect consumer's from people like this? You can't be too careful when it come's to buying a used car.

why would you need a law? if its been CAT D as the owner states in his/her ad then its available for the public during any history check.

surely anybody in the market for an M3 will be competent enough to carry out the proper checks?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,535 ✭✭✭btkm8unsl0w5r4

Really now the add has been altered to truthfully reflect the cars previous history there is no problem. However before with no mention of this crucial point you could only expect someone to buy a lemon........

Having looked at a number of 01, 02, 03, and 04 M3 there are an awful lot that have crash damage (not carpark dents, proper crash damage). Even from BMW dealers. Now if they are fixed properly then there again is no problem.

Ireland doesn't have write off categories to the best of my knowledge, and it was written off in Ireland. So what use is saying it's Cat D?
the owner is not a liar and he is not trying to get you to western union the money and collect the car in the UK, i just dont get it?????
He's saying it suffered the lightest form of damage when the cost to repair was at least 90% of the value.

Cat D is generally 50% of the value in the UK, this car would have been a Cat C which is the most severe form of damage that can legally be repaired and returned to the road.
