Out of warranty Dell repairs?

Does anyone have any experience with getting out of warranty hardware fixed by Dell, in particular laptops? My Dell xps m1210 has died after 3 years of fairly extensive use. I ran POST diagnostics and it is showing that my processor has not been detected. I reseated it with no joy so its either a problem with my processor or motherboard. Its seems you have to ring to an expensive out of warranty number to even just enquire about repairs :(

Probably best to get someone local to repair it for you, the cost of replacing a system board and/or processor will be expensive anyway but going through Dell will be way over priced. Probably would be cheaper to buy a new laptop.

A new system board can cost from €300+ and its only the parts you replace that are covered under that guarantee..

Another option is to purchase a warranty extension from Dell, that way they can replace it under that and the whole laptop is covered.

This is the best way to go. I purchased a warranty almost a year after the original warranty expired. A few posters who have called Dell in the past got their faulty laptops repaired once they purchased the extended warranty.
I'm not sure how much the extended warranty will cost, but you should be able to get a 3yr extended warranty for around 200 yoyo.

Interesting but would buying the extended warranty not be a bit fraudulent when I ring up a few days later asking for my laptop to be repaired? I'd definitely be willing to spend around 200 because I used laptop for so much and I wouldnt get a new laptop with the same functionality for that much.

Also would I be in trouble if I removed some warranty sticker I shouldnt have when dismantling the laptop to re-seat the heatsink? I don't remember specifically doing this but you never know?
