HiMac Vs. Corian - for kitchen worktops

We are currently deciding on the type of material to use on our kitchen worktops and island.

We have decided to got for a fairly chunky look (80mm) with the sink carved out of the same material.

We have received quotes for this from a company who does HiMac and a company who does Corian. Both can do what we want and are pretty much the same price.

From reading about them it seems like they are fairly similar products but I just wanted to ask if anyone on here has any opinions on one Vs. the other or if any has any experience/recommendations regarding them.

At the moment we are slightly leaning towards the LG HiMac.

Any help would be appreciated as we hope to have this sorted by the weekend!

Basically the same product. Both are composite materials using roughly 60-65% stone (Bauxite iirc) and an acrylic plastic. The acrylic is the important aspect, as there are similar products on the market for a fraction of the cost, appearing to do the same job as both Corian and HiMacs, however they use a polyester I think, which can crack and shatter with impact.

I have used both HiMacs and Corian on kitchens and have found no issue with either. Apart from the obvious, being that they are quite prone to light scratches, but these can be easily buffed out. Just remember your surface savers.

Can I ask why you are leaning toward the HiMacs out of curiosity?

They are both incredibly similar. The difference is basically to do with the make up.
Over all, Corian has a better range of colours, but i'd combine and select on the two.

As far as I know, they are two companies in Ireland that deal with these, one for each material. Both are pretty close to dublin.
A word of warning though, a lot of the stuff you see in the online brochures are custom pieces and can't/won't be catered for here. Also, the full range of colours isn't always available in the bowls. When I design a piece for my own bathroom, I would of had to have the bowl imported from the states as the irish fabricator didn't have bowls in coloured material. in the end, we went with a bowl in a solid colour (bone, corian) and had a stone effect top.
Generally the bowls come in about 4 or 5 pale colours, white, cream, bone etc
My advice would be to check our your bowl options with both distributors and work back from there with the available counters. Oh, and just so you know, its not 80mm thick, its about 12mm and is turned down
