Road markings vs Rules of the Road

Theres a roundabout which I use regularly (the roundabout at the "big ball" in Naas for those who know it) which has road markings that seem to contradict the rules of the road, and I was wondering if someone can clear this up.

Basically the roundabout is as follows (I am sitting at the Johnstown exit (metaphorically of course, Im not there now!!!)):

Exit 1 (9 oclock): A large entrance gate to a factory
    Exit 2 (12 oclock): Naas
Exit 3 (3 oclock): Monread Road
    Exit 4 (4 oclock): M7 South
    Exit 5 (5 oclock): N7 North

This is a two lane roundabout, with two lanes leading onto it from the road I am on.

Now as per my understanding of roundabouts, when taking exits 1 and 2 (9 and 12 oclock) you stay in the outside lane, and for exit 3 and subsequent exits you are in the inside lane. Where my confusion arises is that on the road it is marked that Naas and Monread Road (Exits 2 and 3) should stay in the left (outside) lane, and those bound for the N/M7 should be in the right (inside) lane, which seems to contradict the rules of roundabouts as I know them.

So which is to be obeyed: the road markings or the rules of the road?

Or is it possible that the factory entrance is not considered to be exit 1, making Naas exit 1 and the whole thing make sense?

Always follow the markings on the road, if an accident occurs, the assessor and the guards will look for these first.

Aye you use the guideline of the rules of the road unless road markings specify otherwise in which case you follow the road markings

It's no wonder we have so may accidents at roundabouts.

On one hand we have the rules of the road on roundabouts, and the latest alliterations are quite good an clear.

But then we must obey local conditions ~ these often make it mandatory to change lanes on the roundabout, be in the right lane when the left is more instinctive ~ or force one to queue up in the left lanes to take second exit when the left turn is always blocked with traffic and so on and on.

Add to this those 'signalised' roundabouts and ALL bets are off.

Its the same as you leave naas, for the M7 North/Johnstown exists the marking indicate the outside lane, while Monread/M7 south the inside lane, but I'm forever being under cut by fools who use the inside lane for the m7 north. Of course I always make sure there's no such traffic when I take my exist cause this is ireland after all :-). I imagine they are all confused why the bugger behind them is giving out as they take the flyover...
