Price of a new fuel filter?

Was in a garage with my 318 the other day to get a problem fixed. The mechanic said it was an air leak so replaced the hose. The car had been stuttering and chugging for a while but this seemed to fix it. I left the house for work this morning, it was doing the same thing as before but not as bad, i drove 5-6 miles and in that space of time the car died at least 8 times. It just totally cut out, no chugging or anything to say it was going to happen.

Ive had a look online and it sounds like the fuel filter needs replacing. I'll be bringing it back into the garage this morning but how much can i expect to pay for it? Its bad enough im missing a days wages without being raped over this.

May not be the fuel filter Mel. Where did you bring it?
The fact that its cutting out could mean that there is air getting into the system after the Mass flow meter and the mixture of fuel/air is more air than the computer thinks. Maybe the hose wasn't fitted correctly. Maybe the hose has a split in it after the mass flow meter. Hopefully its an easy fix.

Henry St Garage in town.
I only had a quick look online and most of the replies i seen were about a new fuel filter, thats why i presumed it was the problem. I was just back on to the garage, they're full today so ive to bring it back in tomorrow morning.

Cheers Mark

Assuming an early 01 model then this is it link? late 01 or the one with the 2 litre/143 bhp engine then this link

Edit: if it is the former and I was in your shoes I would just buy one and change it myself, for the latter I would want to be sure it was the filter.

It could be an airflow meter problem as well.
