Fairly new to this whole area. Doing up a budget for the year and I'm just wondering if health insurance is worth getting. VHI seem to do a basic kinda plan for around €600 but looking at the info page:

    Hospital Care

    * Full cover for a semi-private room and treatment in over 60 public hospitals -- What does this actually mean???
    * Access to over 1,900 Consultants.
    * 35% cover for certain investigations and treatments in the Blackrock Clinic and the Mater Private Hospital -- to cure 35% of what ails me? :\
    * Up to €100 per night for accommodation expenses incurred when travelling for cancer treatment - maximum of €1,500 per year -- no // very unlikely at my age
    * Cover for eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia -- no
    * Up to 91 days in-patient care for alcohol and substance abuse in any 5-year period -- no!

You may get some general information on what kind of benefits you get generally from insurance on this forum - but:

Banking/Insurance/Pensions is a forum dedicated to the nitty gritty and comparing plans between insurers.

Just to point out that you can get cancer at any age - am a 3 year 4 month survivor of oesophageal cancer, was so glad of my private health cover for that. You never know what tomorrow can bring so I would always believe in private health insurance.
