Pulmonary Embolism & Recovery - Anybody???

    Hi folks,

Just checking if anyone out there has had a pulmonary embolism and what was their recovery like? I used to play a lot of football and was quite fit until I was struck down with pulmonary emboli.

It's been just over six months now and my lungs are still shot to pieces. My o2 saturation levels are very very low when exercising hard and my heart rate rockets quite quickly. I can't run anywhere close to the level I was able to previously, my VO2 max has fallen off a cliff, almost halved. Yes, fitness is a factor after being idle for 9 months (did some training on and off but nothing close to my healthy levels) but I just cant seem to improve my performance level at all when running.

There are very few personal recovery experiences online from runners / football players. Just interested to hear any recovery experiences out there. I'm losing faith in the Dr's, they failed to spot the problem for a long time and now the whole "it will take time" line is beginning to really sound jaded.

I completely appreciate that I was very lucky to survive but I'm struggling to come to terms with my inability to return to fitness and play ball once again.

    Thanks guys.
