Hi I'm just wondering does anyone know of a shop in the north west of the country that sells running shoes but first advice on what shoes to get?
I heard there is one in Belfast but will be a while before I can get there.

Still looking myself , Elverys on the headford road in Galway has a reasonable range but lack expertise and ranges of sizes , they do gait analysis but usually by someone who has probably never ran in their life, hope amphibian king or runways decide on a shop west of the shannon. Met a guy from AK in Athy Sat and learnt more about runners in 3mins with him than dozens of shop visits here.
Going to go to Dublin one of these days .

I was in a similar situation to you, I'd had gait analysis done in Elvery's on Suffolk Street, but didn't know whether I should trust it or not, the girl doing it seemed less than confident. My knee has started giving me a trouble lately so I really wanted to figure out what would suit me. I had a good look online and rang a few places, but the only place I could find was the Elvery's in Galway. As I'm not due in Dublin again for some time I reckoned I'd get it done again there - if they both came to the same conclusion then I figured they might be right.

In the end though, Elvery's in Sligo were doing gait analysis for one day as part of the build-up to the women's mini-marathon. The fellow doing it seemed quite to know his stuff, he was normally based in Donegal, I think in their Letterkenny store. He told me they were only starting to offer it recently there, although he'd been doing it elsewhere before that. I didn't think to ask him where.

On his advice I ended up getting a pair of Kayanos, although I ordered them from sub4.ie instead. They arrived this morning and I went out with them this evening for a quick two miles and I have to say it was the most comfortable run I've had in weeks. I still ended up with ice on the knee as I really overdid it towards the end I was feeling that confident in the new shoes.
