Is it a good idea to shutdown your MBP every night before you go to bed, or do you ever put it to sleep overnight ?

I never shutdown. I restart for system updates and that's it. Macs are designed to be put to sleep rather than shutdown. This is why the power button is at the back of the iMac. Before yesterday, my MBP's uptime was 30+ days (I had to restart to install Safari 5). It was still running perfectly. Sleep uses very little power. Everything is off, except for a little bit of power to keep the RAM active.

How about putting it asleep overnight on just battery power, is that what you do ? or do you leave it plugged in :pac:

Plugged in usually as I need it fully powered for the morning.

I would leave it on, but every now and then I would leave it go dead just to reset the battery. My MBP is 5 years now and I NEVER turn it off apart from leaving it go dead!!!

I do the same as Sad Professor - shutdown only when updates etc. require. I've often left my MBP without shutting it down for a month or two, never did any harm and it's now 2.5 years on!

I tend to shut it down every once in a while, at least once in a while.

I dunno why - there doesnt seem any real need to.
