Was discussing this in the pub last night and there was
a fair amount of debate. So, to shine a light on the drinking
preferences of the UCC student body, what's your preference?

As this is a UCC poll, sticking with the 'upper end' of the market.
If CIT etc was included, I'd include own brand everything, buckfast
    and Mad Dog 2020! ;)

I love cider. Particularly Kopparberg Apple & Lime. Very few places actually sell it, but the Old Bar does! Druids is also pretty savage (stronger than Bulmers and every so slightly less scumbaggy than Linden Village)

As for the poll, tequila ftw. And none of this salt and lemon nonsense; real men drink it straight!

I'm not trying to be funny or a smart arse but is lager not a beer?

The two polls seem all over the place :P

Lager for me. Pints of Miller, Budeiser will do. Bulmers the odd time. Just prefer pints.

Sorry for any confusion. Decided to stick to spirits for simplicity. Strictly speaking lager isn't a beer. If you google the terms you'll get a better explanation of the differences than I can provide off the top of my head :)

As to cognac v brandy, there's a world of difference in the taste as well as the fact that cognac is only produced in specific regions in France.

Whiskey, whisky, bourbon etc etc are all very different.

Appreciate everyone's comments and votes :)

    Yes, it is.
So's bourbon, actually (as long as it's over 3 years old).
    Just different to ours.
Anyone keen on knowing the difference, there's an American whiskey tasting coming up from the Irish Whiskey Society.

[Full disclosure - I'm a member and their tastings are great fun.]

Hate to be a pedant, but you started it with the 'lager isn't beer' thing.
Cognac is a brandy, but not all brandies are cognacs. It's an appellation of brandy specific to the Cognac region of France.
Whiskey and whisky are two ways to spell the same thing. The Irish introduced the 'E' to distinguish from (poorer quality) Scotch in the late 19th to early 20th century.
Bourbon is also a form of whiskey indigenous to the US (not solely Kentucky, though they make about 95% of it.)
    The differences?
Irish is generally (not always) triple distilled, Scotch double distilled. Irish whiskey is often potstill whiskey blended with grain. Good Scotch tends to be single malt. There are exceptions of course - Bushmills make great single malts, Auchentoshan triple distill and Cooley double and triple distill. Scotches can also be smokey quite often, whereas very few Irish whiskeys are.
Bourbon tends to be younger (it ages quicker in the heat) and is aged in new oak barrels which have been charred. Scotch and Irish tend to be aged in used oak barrels which have already contained bourbon or wine (usually sherry.)
Tennessee whiskey (JD being the main one) goes a step further by filtering through charcoal. Hence US whiskeys tend to be more vanilla flavoured.
    But they're all whiskey.

Fair enough, i won't argue with you

Maybe i'll disagree with you.... I just did a google search there and lager is a beer

    http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=is+lager+a+beer&aq=0&aqi=g3&aql=&oq=is+lager+a&gs_rfai=

Maybe you should change it to Lager, Stout, Ale?????

Mmmmmmm, ale. f*cking love ale. :D

Ale, stout, whiskey and rum. I'd be happy if i was stuck with nothing but them for the rest of my life :pac:

I love Bulmers theres always at least one or two cans in my fridge, especially with the good weather we've been having recently. For going out though I have to say Malibu would be my choice, I know it's expensive but it tastes like Summer!:D

Whats your favourite alcoholic drink we are asked, and then we see all the options are for spirits. The poll = silly.
