IPod not loud enough

My Ipod Nano isn't loud enough. In comparision with some other MP3 players I've had, it's half as loud as they are.

It's quite annoying, especially when I'm walking down the street and the traffic is drowning out the music.

Is this something Apple have done on purpose? Is it just my IPod? Is it a glitch?

Go to equaliser and find an unedited one. Then raise all the bars up to the top and it should help it a small bit.

Go into Settings then go to Playback and go to Volume limit and turn it up full. Hope this helps!

Say a big thank you to the French, The EU and Apple. Over here we have a volume cap on all portable audio devices, every brand has to comply with it, as far as I know Apple are the only brand where this cap cannot be easily worked around.

    What you can do:

    1. Buy different headphones, noise issolating ones preferrably

    or

    2. Buy a portable mini-amp

    or

    3. Buy a different player

Same problem. Have a nano and an 80gig larger iPod and theyre both too low. I heard there is a .txt file somwhere in the iPod that you can edit the values to increase the volume.

Some headphones require more drive than others, in effect requiring the user to boost the gain to achieve the same relevant volume as low impedance headphones would achieve at lower gain levels.

I have a nano too. Never had any trouble with the volume (And I do tend to like my music loud). It's definitely not drown out by traffic or anything.

You should check the settings like stereolove suggested. Mine usually locks the maximum volume at half of what it can get to. If you're not already using them, the in-ear headphones that reduce noise might help too. (Though I'd imagine you've already tried that.).

Just tried it, it won't allow me to edit them. :(

Always a possibility. I had the problem when I first got it though. :(

Hmmm. Never heard that. You wouldn't by any chance know how to do that would ya?

This hack can only be done on a jailbroken ipod touch.

There used to be programmes that could remove the volume cap but there haven't been any since the 5g ipod (classic).

You cannot remove the volume cap from your iPod Classic I'm afraid.

open i tunes, select all your songs, right click and click, get info, open the options tab and increase the volume from 50% to 100% or what ever you like.

il will make it really loud

    Distorting it in the process.

Actually, have apple changed it so that this setting is now carried over to the ipod? as initially it only had an effect in itunes.

Ok just askin. A that's a shame. I was thinking off individually amplifiying each track with audio editing software, but that would take fackin ages.

Ah well..... low volume it is :(

That does work, with Audacity at least, but it would take forever.

Would just cause distortion as well... Most tracks will already be hitting peak level in places so amplifying will just push them over it and cause clipping which makes your music sound horrible.
