with it no longer being a long distance National Primary road, the old N3 is ALREADY seeing proposed traffic calming/ management measures.

The 80kmh limit that comes with a classification of an R road is automatic and already in place. No exemptions to raise the limit back to 100kmh have been saught (as far as we know)

Today, Meath county council have published traffic management proposals for Kells, which is a town centre plan, but obviously affects the old N3 path (Cavan-Carnaross-Kells-Navan).

Its quite wide ranging, parking is being removed from some areas to improve traffic flow, theres a one way system proposed, a bit of cobblestone paving, a number of signals at junctions and pedestrian crossings.

Its probably only cropping up now as till now Kells centre was on a strategic national route, but with the kells bypass the major building work down town is possible without disrupting commuters and industry along the M/N 3 corridor .

The plans are wide ranging but as you said the main traffic will be moved on to the bypass these proposals should go ahead.

Kells has needed something like this for years so hopefully it goes ahead.
