    A mate's 04 Opel combo/ 100000 miles failed the DOE on a handbrake imbalance.

Any idea if these are known for any specific handbrake issues. He can even find out what's wrong without the clock going on and it's an old van at this stage.

my yoke failed on that to it turned out to be the handbrake cable was strecthed and was only pulling on one side it could be from being improperly adjusted thats what it was on my might be diffrent on his cables arent that expensive if he can do it himself

Sounds like it's down to the cables alright. Adjustment should be a simple and relatively inexpensive task. There's an outside chance that it may be the mechanism but I'd start with the cables.
