I lost my GNIB card just before going on a trip for 3 days in Paris. I've a stamp 2 on my GNIB card(which is a student visa), but I lost it. Nationality=Malaysian. On my passport, There's a stamp saying that I can remain in the country( Ireland) up to 30st sep. Do you think that there'll be a problem when entering Ireland at the airport custom? Can i get into Ireland by just having a letter from Garda stating that i lost my GNIB card and passport?:confused:

Not sure you would need to ask GNIB, did you get your re-entry visa from the visa office?

Did you loose your Passport as well, if so you will need to contact your Embassy or Consulate before traveling.

Your best to contact the Visa Office, GNIB and your Embassy/Consulate before traveling, just in case.

    Hi jacqueline2099,

Politics is probably not the right forum, although it's hard to think of which one might be! Moved to Legal Discussion - feel free to move further if necessary.

    I have no idea!

However, if the entry stamp on the passport is good until the 30th September, then I assume that is as it states. If you have problems, explain the situation at the airport. The GNIB are not interest in people who are validly here, and allowed to be so.

    Don't worry unnecessarily about it.

I don't know what you mean at the end of the thread - "Can i get into Ireland by just having a letter from Garda stating that i lost my GNIB card and passport?" The passport would do for border entry. The GNIB you can re-apply for when you're here.

nope. I'm not sure if i do need a re-entry visa as i'm holding a Malaysian passport. I don't need a visa to entry Ireland. I've my passport. How to contact GNIB?? Thx for your help:o

Someone is suggesting that i should report the lost of my GNIB card to the Garda station and so I'll get a letter from the garda stating that i lost my card ( for replacementl of the card as well)

If you don't need a re-entry visa on your passport then you should be ok with the GNIB stamp on your passport, Unfortunately I would recommend that you get a new GNIB card as you may just meet a fussy officer (they have them in all countries). GNIB's central office is in Dublin but local Garda stations provide this service, as far as I know. Your college should have this information, go to the international students office.

GNIB also work in the airport. I'm sure they can check your status there if you have id. I would suggest you ring them before you come back and ask what you should do. Maybe ask in Emergency Services if there is a GNIB member who can advise you.

I am on a stamp 4 from the US and just ran into this situation. For those wondering what to do, get a lost/stolen report from the foreign police force and present that at passport controls upon re enterance instead.

If you lost it just before holiday, I would go to the Garda Station and get a report.

I think you do need a reentry visa, which you need to get before you leave the country.

Why would she need a re-entry visa when she never needed an entry visa in the first place.Malaysian passport holders do not require an entry visa for Ireland.

Might be better to email, next to impossible to speak to someone at GNIB.

I have actually found it easier to get through on the phone. If you email you'll get an acknowledgement and then never hear from them again. Use the 9131 extension.

Airport immigration do sometimes ask to see the GNIB card. It happened to me once or twice before I was naturalised (and I'm from a non-visa required country, too). I would think that a letter from the Garda confirming that it was reported lost would assuage their concerns.
