    Just wondering where the likes of cartell and motorcheck actually get their data from does anyone know ?

    I would have assumed its from insurance company's. After all arent they the ones that would acquire the sort of data used in these checks. I could be wrong though.

    They also get their information from the DOE in Shannon afaik.

    Hmmm... I wouldn't have it would be insurance companies to be honest.
    When you get a quote for insurance you don't give your reg number (till you actually purchase it) so they've no way of knowing the history of your car.
    And if they knew the car was not as roadworthy as newer/other cars, then surely the price of insurance would be higher ?
    I dunno, maybe I'm wrong :-)
