Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Lizard Help

    Hi All!

I really want to get a Lizard but am a wuss so was veering toward the veggie ones (was in a pet shop and saw them feeding a snake a mouse and nearly passed out) as I think that'd be healthier for my sanity.

I always had my heart set on getting a camilion (sorry about spelling) or a bearded dragon but both eat the non veg stuff so can anyone suggest a friendly veggie lizard who wouldn't mind being held and and rubbed? and possibly kissed on its little cute lizard head?

I expect this will annoy people, me being so choosy. Sorry, just want to make the right choice for me and the lizard.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend a chamelion as a first lizard, as their habitat requirements are so precise, and they are delicate.
You'll need to get to grips with live food for nearly all commonly available lizards - crickets/locusts etc. They're not so bad when you get used to them!
Beardies are a wonderful pet. Affectionate, hardy etc. You'll need a UV and attention must be paid to their diet.
I really, really recommend geckos as a first lizard. They're wonderful. I've had mine for years. They dont take up much space, are friendly and intelligent, cost much less to feed than beardies and don't even need a UV. Get the basics right, and they're pretty much fool proof. Crested geckos are excellent also, and can be almost entirely fed on Crested Gecko Diet - which means very little live food!
I second the advice to visit Reptile Haven in Fishamble street, Dublin. The best shop in the country for reptiles, and the advice you'll get will be second to none. You may be waiting around a bit, but it will be worth it! :D

I would go with a Bearded Dragon, they have a great personality and like to be handled. I used to let mine have free Regine on the living room during the evenings and supervised run in the garden in the summer.

I have Bearded Dragons too, only type of lizard I've owned and they are great, they're very calm, love attention and quite easy to maintain once you get the initial setup done right.

You're only issue would be the feeding, they eat crickets waxworms etc.
Once you get used to the live food you're sorted, not that thats a big issue either.

I let mine run around the front room all the time, she loves exploring, and when they're younger, they seem to try to climb up on everything, can be quite funny
