How about a real gay wedding. Dressed as Stormtroopers? :)

perhaps we should stage a newly married gay couple perfoming an abortion using a cross.

    Yeah, that'll irk them.

    Oh FFS...

When I rise to power I'll make that outdated, abusive, corrupt and progressivly retardant group of god damn idiots answer for some things..

    First order of buisness?
    BAM..
Tax exempt status revoked for all "religions" in the country.

    Ah hell, ignore me...
I'm just in a seriously anti bullsh1t mood today and religion in general is one thing that gets my goat..

Two pieces of cardboard is a "protest" now? That'll definitely leave the liberal atheist (like me)types quaking in their boots.

They're the types of sign that usually read "Hay for sale"

There should be a new rule implemented stating that every argument that invokes the 'children' cliche should automatically be ignored. It's utter bullsh1t.

Shouldn't it be "no thanks" to Sodomy, or are they not taking the offer as a complement...

Atheist Liberal? Funny connotations the word 'liberal' has for ye.

A real liberal will defend Cóir's right to say what they want, even though they don't agree with it.

Ah yes, but I'm not a real liberal, I'm an anti - religious one.

Why would you do so? Live and let live no?

What some fail to realise is that proposals of a mock gay wedding to irk them are simply the other side of the same ugly coin and akin to ultrareligious types burning an effigy of a homosexual or some such act - demanding that others change their mind to think just like you. You are guilty of the crime that you condemn at that rate.

I'm not a proponent of organised religion myself but I invite people to take an examination of conscience before proclaiming themselves as 'liberal'.

I do so because they are advocating holding back the progression of society and are attempting to block the expansion of what I, and many, consider basic rights to a minority group in society.

If we replaced "same-sex marriage" with "inter-racial marriage", I'd imagine you'd think differently too. I know this is an old, worn out argument but the point of it still stands.

I see where you're coming from, but I think that I, and others here are perfectly entitled to point out the flaws, bigotry and downright hypocrisy that are a key part of Cóir's "message".

Why is it seen as 'progression' in society or a 'right'?

Is it because some people are vocal about wanting something?

Is it because other countries have done it?

Who decides what a 'right' is?

I happen to be a proponent of both. But if others such as Cóir argue differently, they are entitled to do so without being mocked, without their entitlement to express their views being questioned, and without their right of protest being questioned.

No argument from me on that Sulmac. Just be sure that they are free to do the same. If you want to repress their right, don't go around claiming to be liberal.

The right to marry is a basic right in (I'm almost sure) every country - between a man and a woman, that is. Extending this basic right to same-sex couples is the natural progression and, yes, it's something that is spreading because other countries/territories have done it (with no problems).

Put it like this, do you honestly think that granting same-sex couples the right to marry wouldn't be progress?

I'd never advocate silencing these groups, and of course I agree wholeheartedly with their right to protest, etc. But, as I said before, that doesn't make them right, and it doesn't mean I don't have the right to question them or give my opinion on them - freedom of expression (and speech/opinion) is a two way street. Frankly, if they're willing to go public with their views, they're opening themselves up to a whole new level of scrutiny - and this can include anything from questioning them to counter-protests and even mocking them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,661 ✭✭✭General Zod

let them protest. I need a good chuckle, and laughing at intolerant bigots is a hobby of mine.

Anyone know when their next protest is, so we can arrange to go down with a ghetto blaster and play "Gay Bar" loudly at them?

    • Writing in capitals
    • Wild generalisations
    • Extreme fear mongering
    • Hatred
    • Refusing to accept other points of view
    • Taking wholesome labels (liberal/Christian) and abusing them to justify your position
You might not like the Westboro Baptists. But the funny thing is - you are head over heels in love with their methods! This is what I have a major problem with. Collegekid liberals who do not have a first clue about what that word actually means.
