without first checking with the business owner.

We keep lodging overnight lodgements and then finding out a week later when we get the bank statment that its been changed - mostly pennies but today it was €50.00

do they need to legally check first?

all those night safe lodgements are counted under about 10 camera's...but you can always query it. If it's wrong it's wrong!

But even if it's the wrong cash amount - do they have to confirm with the business owner before they manually change the lodgement docket?

Nope. It was probably the person who originally counted it made the mistake to begin with. You can query it, but I know that night safe lodgements are normally counted and triple checked and signed off by someone else under multiple camera angles.

whenever we used nighsafes and had wrong amounts, we got brand new printed sheets signed by the guys who checked / double cheked etc...
