Best\Worst Deleted Scenes

So generally speaking,I rarely get the chance\bother to take a look at the deleted scenes from movies unless its a personal favourite or the dvd's been sitting around long enough.

From memory I always thought Natural Born Killers had some of the best, although for the most part they seem slightly out out of place and contain some questionable acting..the courtroom scene is probably one of the better ones and is taken word for word from Tarantino's original script

When it comes to a real dud the original Blade ending, has it all....completely unwatchable

also the Octupus scene from the Gooonie's deserves a special mention for its sheer corniness

The original ending to Seven certainly didn't leave much to the imagination

    :)

so my movie knowledge is somewhat limited on this particular topic, does anyone have any other interesting examples?

The best collection of deleted scenes would have to be for Daredevil: Directors Cut. They are not superbly acted or anything like that but they just completely change the movie from what was released in the cinema. It throws in a whole separate story line that really fleshes out the Matt Murdock persona. God knows why they decided to omit those scenes from the theatrical release.

The worst collection of deleted scenes are those that didn't make it in to Donnie Darko theatrical release. If anyone has ever had the misfortune of watching the Directors Cut they will see what an abomination Richard Kelly could have turned out had he complete control over the editing process.

I love the deleted scene in High Fidelity where Cusack goes to the house to price a record collection and its being sold by a pissed off wife, his reactions on finding rare as unicorn sh1te singles is brilliant.

Just browsing through a few different ones now and came across the original opening for Batman Forever,I remember reading about years ago.Think it definitely would have been a vast improvement over what they ended up using.

Now this scene on the other hand...:pac:

If my memory serves me right George Lucas created additional scenes to specifically go on the Phantom Menace DVD and I'm almost certain that they were referred to as deleted scenes! His Alanis Morrisette moment ;o) How can they be deleted when they weren't created while he was making the movie?

The Sentry Guns scene from Aliens. Great scene left out of the film.

That was awful and completely out of pace with the rest of the film. very uncharacteristic of McClane's character too.

No, I think they really were deleted scenes. He just added music and finished all the effects on them.

Is no one else weirded out that the lads above posted the same Aliens scene in the same minute?!

Here's a scene from Alien, it's from near the end of the film (so don't watch unless you've seen Alien!):

A great moment, but I can see why it was cut. It kinda ruins the pace of the frantic ending.

I love the deleted scene in Spinal Tap where they get the limo driver stoned and he ends up in his underwear singing Sinatra.

I find for the most part deleted scenes are deleted for a reason! In comedies a couple of funny bits may unfortunately have to be cut (like Spinal Tap mentioned above) just for length / pacing reasons, but otherwise they tend to be superfluous bits which break the flow. Some of them can be curious to watch, but if they really were good they'd be in the film in the first place.

+1 on Donnie Darko: the director's cut. Most of those scenes were on the original DVD, and while nice to see, totally destroy the atmosphere of the film when put in. It genuinely did prove the original cut to be a fluke, backed up my Kelly's recent, increasingly dreadful follow-ups. That said, the DVD of part one also features one of the most bizarre deleted scenes I've ever seen, an easter egg hidden in one of the menus.
The scene shows Donnie impaled on the airplane after it has crashed into the house. It's graphic, out of tone, and slightly distrubing.
The clip then plays with a commentary track from Kelly apologising for showing it!

I think there was about 70 minutes cut from Spinal Tap. Almost a film in itself! They're all on the DVD.

Its not really a deleted scene from it but when you watch the deleted scenes from Spinal Tap, the "cold sore plague" that the band go through from sharing groupies becomes all the more obvious!
