    you may have a choice

    Maghera
    Tonabrocky
    Cairn Hill
    Truskmore

If your area has TV3 analogue it will come from one of those 4 ( not Tonabrocky) and that is where you need to point a UHF aerial of the correct group to get DTT. Most likely Maghera to the south or Cairn Hill to the east or ENE . Truskmore is a long shot.

If your area has no TV3 analogue but has TG4 then ye probably get it off the Abbeyknockmoy relay which will not supply DTT for quite some time...if ever.

I live 8 miles south of Tuam and can receive DTT from all of those sites above except for Truskmore, which doesnt even come in on analogue. Tonabrucky is probably too weak the closer to Tuam you go, Truskmore you will get only north of the town, Cairn Hill analogue reception in the town is notoriously bad as Tuam is in a dip. Maghera DTT is probably the strongest for you on UHF channel 48.

Is there a relay planned for Knockroe Hill (Abbeyknockmoy)?? It is the site of a low power MMDS beam bender (only a northerly beam though) and the Galway Bay FM high power FM 5 kw transmmitter for Galway county. There are NO RTÉ/TV3/TG4 transmissions DTT or analogue from Knockroe Hill - nor have there ever been! I can see the mast from my living room window and I can assure you there is NO RTÉNL relay there!!

BTW the DTT from Cairn Hill on ch 47 has been breaking up since Sunday with distorted audio and Tonabrucky DTTch. 23 is co channel with analogue TG4 from Castlebar - very clever indeed!

cheers guys. i am actually just beside the foot of knockroe. my aerial is pointing north east at mo and is picking rte 1&2 analogue brilliantly and tv3 and tg4 not as good but watchable. not sure which mast but def not form knockroe.
are you near here galway? im in turloughmore.
I bought an aerial that was marked digital and have a booster from it. i wonder is this compatable with dtt as i only bought it 2 years ago in maplin??

The aerial should be, wonky but watchable analogue often means perfect digital..... but if you bought a dtt tuner from maplin it is most probably not compatible with Irish DTT and not "fit for the purpose" as the law says. Bring it back for your money back.

The giveaway is that tuning works ( see cairn hill thread) and you get RTE and TG4 audio and Radio but NO picture.

There is no such thing as a 'digital aerial'. Maplins... hmm . on overpriced wide band inferior aerial no doubt, means not all channels are as good picture wise. What channels are they coming in on? Souns like you are talking about analogue here.

If Cairn Hill its RTE 1 channel 40, RTE 2 - ch. 43, TV 3 Ch 46 and TG4 ch. 50 (always the weakest), if |Castlebar its RTE 1, ch 29, RTE 3 ch. 33 and TG 4 Ch. 23 I(poor due to co channel with Tonabrucky DTT). Aerial pointing NE - thats Cairn Hill so, the Digital mux is on ch. 47. You need a group B aerial to improve your analogue though, which has deterioated since DTT came in from Cairn Hill, the DTT is coming in higher than the analogue.

I am 4 miles east of Tuam and I am picking up DTT perfectly well from Maghera even though Abbeyknockmoy / Knockroe hill is in my LOS. And thats using a DIY aerial I made myself and an Edison Argus combo box. You won't have any problem from Turloughmore.
