Where can I buy salt tablets in Ireland or do I have to go online?
Do any users out there have a preferred brand, they all appear to be American, Succeed, Endurolyte, Salt Stick, Lava Gel?
Are the dissolvible tablets such as nuun, zym etc. the same thing?
Need them for long distance endurance event in the heat.
    Thanks.

I prefer the nuun/zym dissolvable type as I find the saltstick ones make me gag. I've put this down to them dumping the salt into system faster than drinking it dissolved but I've no evidence for that. Most of the specialised running and cycling stores appear to be doing them these days, they're usually with the energy drinks/ protein powders in store.

Used the Nuun's Lemon & Lime during cork marathon.....wrap them individually in cling film in your pocket, very easy then to drop into a bottle while on the run. Actually makes quite a refreshing drink.

I've ordered a bottle of Succeed S-Caps a few months ago, together with some drink, online directly from their website, but would hesitate doing so again because the posting fee was utterly outrageous (which I had not noticed at the time - idiot me!).

But of course now that I've got them, I use them. The S-caps are great, I'm pretty sure they were a major reason why I had such a strong race in the Connemara Ultra when just about everyone else was moaning about the heat.

I've tried Nuun as well, from wiggle. To be honest, I don't think it did anything for me.

A friend went into a specialised running and cycling store at the weekend to look for saltsticks. I'm told he was told that "he'd have to go to a chemist" and |sure why didn't he just get some table salt".

So nobody knows where you can purchase salt tablets 'over the counter'?

Will the dissolvible tablets do the trick?

Then you end up with a load of water in your belly on the run?

From chatting to experienced IM distance athletes there is a polar divide between those that swear by, and those that swear, at salt tablets.

+1 on the SCaps. I've found them to be great. They are very easy on the stomach. There is a site in the UK that supplies them( http://www.wayside-kinetics.co.uk ) - no way was I going to pay that crazy postage from the US.
I don't have any connection with that site other than being a happy customer. Unfortunately they don't stock Amino/clip2 or any of the other Succeed drinks. I sent him a mail and he said that if there was sufficient interest that he'd look into getting a batch shipped over.

I've used Succeed and found them useful for longer duration events where you may not have the stomach for drinking sports drinks for extended periods or you sweat a lot as I do.

I've never had a problem with them being too concentrated, my experience is be sure to take them with a good swig of water and all is good. As for a supplier I think the UK source already referenced is the nearest I've heard of. I got a US based mate to mail them to me when I bought.

I've got a load of them and could give you 10 or something if you want to try them out before buying? They'll post easily and so long as the white powder doesn't leak we should be safe from prosecution. :D

anyone ever tried Dioralyte? I've heard a few cyclists recommend it, but I haven't tried it myself as I don't sweat much when on the bike. I've recently taken up running as well though & i'm sweating buckets for some reason!
