Hey there we are a promotion group set in the heart of Dublin City.
We professionally organize and promote shows on in The James Joyce Ulysses Venue, The Twisted Pepper and The Academy 2, all located on Middle Abbey St.

We promote our shows to the full extent like for ie. print leaflets, posters, tickets, radio, Internet to give bands a chance and experience to play in front of a packed out venue. Here is an example of our last show that we organised in the following link http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=124933080862509&ref=mf

    Contact details - neonhearts@live.com - - - www.myspace.com/neonheartsmusic
    www.facebook.com/neonheartsmusic

*general info on our gigs etc are listed below* READ CAREFULLY!

    Neon Hearts
    Let The Show Begin Promotions*
Details about the gigs are as follows -
    - We will be printing out 80 tickets
    - We wil be selling 20 tickets to each band, each ticket costs 2:50 euro
and each band will be expected to sell every ticket (including
ourselves) for 5euro to the public (so if there is 4 people in a band, each person only really has to
sell 5 tickets each, which can be done in one day).
    - There will be 2 other well established bands as well as yoursevles
supporting us, which means if all 80 tickets are sold, there will be a
far better chance of having a good crowd of 100 people there as it
gives them a better inscentive to come watch the bands play.
    - Most importantly we are promoting this gig ourselves but we are not
looking for any money what so ever out of the gig. We are just looking
for great bands to come play with us and also have a well organised
show with plenty of people there to watch.
    - We will also be promoting this gig in weeks before hand with flyers, posters and the internet etc.
    - All the money made out of the gig will go towards paying the venue back for renting it out
and the rest of the money goes out to all the bands that play at the show.
If you would be interested in supporting us, we would be delighted to
hear back from you as soon as possible. Any other questions you would
like to ask, please don't hesitate!
    Shuggs / Neon Hearts

FFS! Posted a long reply and accidentally refreshed the page! Anyway, short version is: Playing with these guys in a few weeks. So often get chancers trying to make bands pay for venues but split profits etc but these guys, as far as i can see, are in the interest of the bands. Hate having to sell tickets but if it means all bands on the night are playing to 100+ people its great exposure and not alot of effort to sell 4 tickets each (unless your mates are as lazy and tight as mine!!) hehe. Looking forward to it and will report back with hopefully positive stuff :)

First off... I admire you for what you are doing

Secondly... <mod hat on> don't cross forum post. You'll get banned. Stick to Bands/musicians for this type of thing<\mod hat off>

Thirdly... Why shouldn't you get paid? I understand the love of music and all, and the initial "horn" of having your own night and all... BUT if you are putting in the work of promoting the show (as well as the bands) why shouldn't you get a cut? (FYI, I played in bands for years, and promoted gigs as well) The way I see it working, the bands get enough money for drinks, (we're not talking professional musicians here, before any of the regulars jump down my throat), so why shouldn't you get a few bob out of it? You will (READ: should) be putting the hours in to deserve it. After all, the band will (yes again, READ: should) be playing in front of 20 of their mates but more importantly, 80 people they never have. What are you as promoters getting out of it? Where does the money for flyers/posters/comps/"drinks for those who can help you" come from? Your pocket?

Please, I am not attacking you, as I said, I admire people that are helping the music scene, occasionally (and unfortunately) I am a realist. You need to grow. You can only do this by taking your fair share. Not more, not less.

I would love your opinion on my opening post on this thread: Before you hand over cash to a promoter... read this!

    \addendum...

TO PAPA SMURF - And we certainly know where you're coming from. There are a few cowboys out there that like to use bands and make there little bit of bucks out of the bands around Dublin and call themselves promoters. We have been Neon Hearts now for 2 years and have played to many promoters where they take all the money, don't put any promotion into their gigs and expect the bands to bring the crowds just by word of mouth. We got sick of it in the end and have decided to start up our own promotion group. Of course we are not just doing this out of the goodness of our hearts for other bands, we also benefit from all of this too in the long run.
The ticket situation, well we don't make any profit from it at the moment as such, just like any business you start with nothing and build your way up, we're looking at the longterm affects from all of this.
We wont make any profit out of this really ourselves, but every time we do put a show together we are hoping it will breakeven and we'll be able to pay back the venue and the rest goes to the bands supporting us.
As for advertising and promotion, between the 4 of us in our group we really don't mind paying a few bob here and there for printing tickets, it costs very little.

We are in touch with many people from MCD at the moment and they are only interested in coming to shows if they know we can pack out a full house for every gig and we are also creating contacts with people from hotpress and other music magazines, this is our motivation for it really. We're hoping to build ourselves a name by consistently playing in the same venues over and over again. We are of course interested in money but we look at it with such a broader perspective than that.

As iv'e said to many people and bands over and over again, as i keep banging my head off the wall, there is no point in being interested in money if you are in an unsigned band unless you're small minded enough on just getting a few bob here and there, its pointless to us. You're first real pay check only comes when you hear your first hit single on the radio and where you finally have the likes of MCD promoting your shows to a packed out O2. Until then your just another pawn in the game, broke ass ''musician'' that doesn't want to work real hard for what they want and think labels, MCD and fame will come landing on their door-step and kiss their feet. That is our motivation for all of this and unlike many bands we have a well thought out plan on giving us the best chance possible in getting there. I hope iv'e answered your questions.

    Shuggs
