I already got up a few threads on this issue so this is probably going nowwhere but I got 2 herbal remedies , value 32.58 and was told nothing about charges by the courier. A week later get a letter from fed ex demanding a further 24.21!
That was a fedex international priority vat of 12.11 and an adminstation fee of 10 and a further vat of 2.10.
I take it I just have to pay it as I gave 20 minutes on the phone getting nowhere?

If you purchased them from a site that ships from outside the EU then you are liable to pay VAT. Other courier companies handle it differently e.g. with TNT they call in advance with the amount as they will demand cash on delivery.

The 12.11 is the VAT that was paid to the Revenue Commisioners as the product was shipped from outside the EU and was subject to VAT etc

The admin charge is charged by the courier company for providing the customs clearance facility

My problem is I'm always ordering things on the net and plenty from outside the eu and have only once got asked to pay these charges before, by fed x. I would be very confident that I have recieved other parcels from america in the last few months through An Post and usps and I never get asked for these charges.

One reason why I will not use FedEx!
Another reason I will not use them is after the time they stuck a notice on the hall door, for the whole world to see, to say nobody was at home and they could not deliver the package. I flipped! Called them and was told they would review such policy in light of my concern about security/stupidity.
    Complete shower of tossers IMHO!
