    Hi folks

I am so sorry to ask as I'm sure this has been asked many times. I did a quick search on here but didn't quite find the answer I was looking for.

I have a Freesat installation, basically a dish on chimney coming into an old Sky box. I use the Sky epg to browse the free channels.

I would now like to go HD as I have ordered a new HD TV. I realise that I will need a new HD box, either a Humax or SKY HD etc. I have the following questions...

What do I need to do to upgrade to HD?

Do I need a dual LNB and two cables coming back to HD box?

Is there any box that will allow recording of both Freesat and ariel channels (RTE) ?

    Many thanks

You would be better off getting a QUAD lnb...four outputs. You will then need to run a second cable for your HD Pvr box...a good choice could be perhaps An MVISION 300...not sure if you can record terrestrial and watch sat and vice versa...

Pm user saor... as he is a big seller and has a great site about them..

    http://www.saortv.com/shop/

You should then run another cable to different room and use your old box as a fta in there..

    thanks steveon

tell me, can I use my current Sky FTV card in a MVISION 300 or similar box to get Sky3, Five etc?

Also does it provide red button functionality?

Yes, you can use your Sky FTV card with unofficial version of firmware. No red button this is only with Sky or freesat boxes. You can tune in the BBC interactive screens behind the red button as normal channnels though

Do the Edisons work with the Sky cards Slegs ? How long before those cards die after subscription ends anyway even off a Sky box ?

Yis didnt selll the DTT end of it lads (terrible salemen). DNme: you will also get the RTEs and Tg4 in Digital off an aerial on that box too.

Heres a good one for you actually since the Mvision 300 is being discussed. Was in Peats last week and they had one underneath one of the new 3D TVs. Out of curiousty I asked how much they were selling them for.

    Guess.

Yes there is an unofficial version of firmware for the Edision that does the same thing as the MVision for Sky cards. They last about 4-6 weeks outside a Sky box and then need to be put back in overnight to get kept alive (tune to Sky 3)

I think Maplin were selling the MVision for over 300 for a long time. Not sure if they still are - and they are probably getting better whoelsale prices than the online retailers.

Jesus lads, is nothing simple anymore.
So I now need a PVR and a Sky box just to keep a card alive? FFS
not to mention the whole debacle of getting Irish Terrestrial stations etc etc

The boxes arent Sky boxes so this is a additional unofficial "feature" that you are free to use if you wish. Most people who want to do this find it quite useful considering you can have Channel 4HD also. You can put the card in any sky box.

    Fellas

Tried to pm saor and got the message
saor has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her.

If you are trying to send this message to multiple recipients, remove saor from the recipient list and send the message again.

    So I'll ask here...
Is the MVision 300HD box capable of recording one chan while watching another ?

    Many thanks

saw them in maplins on sale for 329 then they suddenly changed to 229........no sale sticker or clearance sticker like they normally use - 100 off - just like that...!!!!

Sorry dnme, my inbox was full.

The Mviison does not do watch one record another (between sat and DTT). The Edision will be able to do this with a software upgrade to come shortly (promised before end june by Edision but it has moved a couple of times already).
