    IGN gave it a 9.5.

Imagine if Excitebike and Trials HD got together and totally did it. Their baby would be Joe Danger. It's a stunt motorcycle game that combines the physics play of Trials with the cartoon presentation and level editor of Excitebike. I like Trials HD a lot but those later levels were incredibly frustrating. Joe Danger is a much breezier, lighthearted affair. The later levels are definitely challenging, but I was always ready to get back on my bike and try again. It's great, great fun and a must-download for any PlayStation 3 owner.

Cool, I'd totally forgotten this was out today. Looking forward to getting it. Liked Trials HD but found it frustrating towards the later levels so this sounds perfect for me. Seems to have a bit more personality than Trials too.

Add to that the level cusomisation (and the fact that the head honcho of hello games is Irish :P ) I will def be getting this.

Saw the the citizen game interview with the 3 lads. Seems like a decent enough game.

I'm saving my PSN monies for E3 just to see if anything gets released after the conference, but if nothing gets announced I think Joe Danger will be getting my monies ^^.

I was thinking of doing the same but I'm going to see what Microsoft have in store too for another Summer of Arcade. They've nothing announced for release next week. Would love if they announced Shadow Complex 2 and said "Oh and it's on the marketplace right now!"

Still think I'm going to pick up Joe Danger tonight. Been looking for a PSN-type game as a distraction.

Downloaded it there. Had a quick go of it. Well played the first few levels at least. Too shattered to have much in the ways of a lucid thought but first impressions are that it's really good. Controls great and it's definitely not just a cartoony Trials HD. It's its own thing. Definitely going to 'cause a fair few bouts of 'just-one-more-goitis'

I really like it so far anyway. Hoping it gets a bit more intricate and stuff later on, it has oodles of potential.

It's up on the US Store by the way for $14.99

I have 2100 MS points sitting in my account for just such an occasion.

Joe Danger is up on the store here now, €12.99. I'll get it eventually, then we can share levels ^^. At least I hope you can share levels across different regional versions?

Ah crap yeah I didn't think of that. Hopefully you can, I think for a smaller scale game it would make sense for it to work with multiple regions. Kinda wish I'd frickin' waited for the EU version now, just for the sake of one or two euro. Assumed it would work out at 15 euro in our store. Damn my impulsive nature!

Yeah it would seem that since about the start of this year Sony have copped on the the Euro is worth more than the dollar and worth not that much less than the pound. Anyways have fun with Joe ^^.

Aye, I've been waiting for this since I saw it at IGF. It looks like great fun to be honest, definitely brings back some Excitebike memories.

Gona wait till it hits the 360 though since most of my mates are online with that. Fingers crossed the wait won't be too long. :o

Anyone thinking of picking this up today will need to do before 4pm this afternoon or leave it till tomorrow.

PSN is down for maintenance this evening, all PSN access for online gaming & stores will be unavailable.

Read the description of the game, it states its a ps3 exclusive. Might nt be heading to the 360

As I said, I've been following the game since it was first shown off at the IGF, where it was running on the 360 so it's certainly working on the platform.

Then you have this piece from Sean Murray (Hello Games MD) where he highlights the fact that they're free agents after this and can do what they please.

The only trouble would be the fact that they received funding form Sony's Pub Fund which may guarantee said exclusivity. On the other hand it could be just timed but who knows.

Either way I'll keep the fingers crossed and hope we don't have another Thrine on our hands.

Isn't the pub funds terms that they match the development budget in return for exclusivity?
Its what happened with Burn Zombie Burn anyway

anyone getting this psn error 80023102 when trying to add funds to a psn wallet ?

Yep, that seems to be the purpose of the funding alright. As I said though, given the comments made and the fact that it's already working on the 360 it remains to be seen what'll happen.

On the other hand, the press release from Sony does say it's a "console exclusive" which, combined with the fact that Joe Danger was also submitted to the ESRB for the PC, perhaps indicates that the only other platform it'll be released on may be that. On a similar note, it seems Burn Zombie Burn is also making it's way to Steam.

I grabbed it this morning. Paid directly though (didn't use wallet). Seems like a fun game. Controls might be a bit fiddley though.... I only played 3 tutorial levels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,054 ✭✭✭✭Professey Chin

Controls slightly fiddly but I gotta say this game is awesome :D

It wasn't a 360, it was a pc with a 360 pad. having said that, Sean was on the Eurogamer podcast the other day and stated that the game runs on the 360. They released it on the PS3 because Sony are easier to deal with than MS who make the devs jump through hoops.

They should make a platform game next where you play a Dev who literally has to jump through hoops for Microsoft to get a distribution deal.

Ah, that'd make more sense alright, seems to be confirmed on the podcast too. As for going with them because they're easier to deal with, both publishers have their ups and downs when it comes to their online stores but I think it's fair to say that the Pub fund, exclusivity aside, offers a pretty damn good deal for developers who want complete control over their game.

Getting more and more tempted to just pick it up on PSN now and just get it on XBLA too if/when it arrives there. :o

    Do it!DOOOOOOOOOO IT!!!!

On a side note, anyone got a link to the full details of the pub fund?
I can only find blog links from when it was announced and they dont help much!

I'd pick it up now if I were you. It'll probably be months if it arrives at all on XBLA. So for the sake of 13 quid I'd pick it up. Plus by the time it arrives on XBLA you'll know the tracks inside out and be able to destroy yer buddies' scores on the XBLA version :P

The GamesIndustry.biz article (which you'll need an account to view in full) probably has the most publicly viewable info available.

    Now that's a good point! :D

    Just got this.

Awesome game so far. Like Super Mario Bros crossed with Trials HD. (Nintendo probably arent' happey with some of the design, particularly the Cacti. Also a bit of Viewtiful Joe in there)

Just played the first stage. Still getting to grips with the controls and system - there's no instructions anywhere!

Add me if you guys are getting a high scores group going. (psn: RogueJT)

Except for the giant speech bubbles at the start of each level and on the loading screens.

The instructions aren't communicated well at all, but after an hour you'll know what to do. It's a lot of fun.

    don't be such a tard.
As stated above the instructions aren't well given.

Sometimes you're whizzing along and it's in the background and you literally can't see what the sign says.

Yeah well offensive name-calling aside, you do know there are brakes on the motorbike so you can stop and read what it says? The instructions are at the start of the stage. The first ten stages are like tutorial stages, and as I said the loading screen has all the info anyway. It introduces one new mechanic per level for the first few levels. How is that not well explained? It's not the games fault you're not slowing down to read the instructions.

Brilliant game, just got it today. Its the most fun i have had in ages, pity there is no online play. Difficulty ramps up after a couple of tours surprisingly.
Really loving it, definitely worth buying.

I notice that the online content....such as high scores, sharing tracks etc seems to be limited to friends on your PSN.

If anyone wants to add me (PSN: Sarumite) please feel free.

Great little game imo. I'm about 65% through I think but I've no friends who have the game so not really sure how good I am compared to other gamers.

    Anyone creating maps?

  • Site Banned Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭jayteecork

    On Director's Cut - Insert Disk 2 and it's a fkn nightmare.

Have every other star in the game but honestly don't think it will be possible to get them all in this level, which means I won't be able to get 100% in the game and trophies.

Which sucks. This level is just completely ridiculous.

Is insert disk 2 the on with the totem pole thing at the very start? Really is the hardest level. I pissed through the rest of the game but this monster is something else. I play my best on about my 5th or 6th try as I memorise what is coming up and my hands are still not starting to give up on the strain of doing it.

A lot of people are saying this game is like trails with little big planet but in my experience in the later levels it is reminding me of guitar hero. I barely see the obstacles I'm just going wheelie, jump, duck, boost jump then duck under the barrier but back to wheelie to keep my 100%. Not gonna walk away from the level tho, enjoying it too much.

After a month I still love this game but just imagine if you could download the top rated player maps and play online, my mates wont play against me because they have no chance. Fat Princess just released co-op in a new update, perhaps it isn't as big a dream as I first thought.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 226 ✭✭Chrizfitz

New JD update has a couple of new features. the ability to submit and download new levels would be the main addition for me. Its called the peoples patch as they have listened to player feedback. find more details here

Oh theres also a demo out, if you havent played JD yet give it a go.
