    Hi,
I will go on to Job Seekers Allowance soon. I cannot see any possibility of finding a job at present. Do Social Welfare still offer training places for those my age. What happens after years on JA if you cannot get a job.?

    Thanks .

You should get sent to Fás after three months signing on where they are obliged to put you on a course. Then again they may not if you've been sent already from a previous claim. Ask when you sign on.

I don't think Fás will offer you a course or that the SW will require you to go on a course, but if you pick one yourself, you will be eligible for it. There is no limit on the amount of years Jobseekers Allowance can be claimed. If you were looking to volunteer etc., there are lots of volunteer organizations which would be glad of your maturity and experience.

I am inclined to agree that no course will be offered.I did a safe pass 2 years ago and they asked did I have a use for it.I actually needed it when I got a job after 2 months.
    Thanks for the reply.

Ah yeah, they will try to place you at least. I wouldn't totally give up hope just yet, there might be something available for you if you do a course.

    Hi,
I am now on job seeker allowance .There is no possibility of finding work.
I am 56 years .What will welfare do in my position ? I know they are reluctant to offer training to someone my age. I wonder will the pre retirement allowance return ?

There is a very wide range of schemes/courses for which you, and people much older than you, are eligible, including Fas courses, Fas Work Placement, the Community Employment Scheme, JobBridge Internships, VTOS Courses, Back to Education Allowance etc. Well worth looking into.

I think the government pre 2006 should have had incentive schemes to employ over 50's .This would have somewhat prevented the invasion of younger new EU workers. Now those over 50 Irish citizens on the dole are branded as malingers in the newspapers.I think if you make such a statement about foreigners its racist.

Really at this point I don't give a dam.
