I hope someone can help me. I have my Learner Permit since April 1st and i have been taking driving lessons in a Toyota Yaris, when i started the lessons my instructor made sure i could feel 'Biting Point' before starting off. Now i have just bought my first car last Tuesday and it's a Renault Clio (2001) and there is no biting point in this car, you just release the clutch altogether while pressing the accelerator. Now this is really confusing me as my instructor said all cars have a biting point. Can anyone help??????:confused::confused:

All cars with a clutch do have a bite point, it's just much more noticeable in some cars than others. Do as donegalfella said, on a level surface just let the clutch out slowly in 1st until the car starts to creep forward, and that's the bite point.

You'll get used to where it is once you've been driving the car for a little while, then muscle memory takes over.

Thanks for the replies. It's just when i put the gear in first and slowly take my foot off the clutch and press the accelerator the car stalls, this has happened lots of times, and usually at traffic lights when there's traffic behind me and then people start getting impatient and start beeping and then that makes me worse and i can't get the car going again. What am i doing wrong?

Have you tried the counting method of coming off the clutch?? Basically release it as you count one thousand and one, one thousand and two, one thousand and three by then you should be fully off the clutch and no fear of stalling provided you are giving the car gentle acceleration. No need to over rev, but again that's gonna happen until you master pedal control.

i have a 01 Clio as well & found that biting point is really high up, as in you have almost let the clutch completely up
i had a few problems getting used to it as i had a polo before & it was completely different!
when you have let the clutch up most of the way, slowly start to push the accelerator while depressing the clutch altogether
just takes some practice, ive had my clio for about 2 weeks & it just comes naturally now

Odd. A friend had a clio of that era and I found the opposite tbh. Sounds more like the clutch is on the way out imo

It could be the clutch cable, mine loosened a few times and you can get it tightened if it needs it, or maybe it needs replacing like maxpower1 said.

You don't even need to feel the biting point imo, you should be able to hear the engine start to stall struggle, that's when you step on the accelerator.

Don't get worked up about stalling in traffic, most of us have done it more than once and it's no biggie, if anyone beeps you they are inconsiderate back side crevices.
