Can any of you fine folk help with this problem?

We have 2 macbooks in the house connected up to an Airport wireless router and using Vodafone (previously BT Ireland) as our ISP.

However, we have problems accessing some websites (eg Facebook, Twitter) whilst at the same time we can access all the main news websites, boards, wiki etc.

It's very unusual and no real pattern as to which websites we can access eg. we can browse through carzone.ie no probs but cannot view the Apple store. The browser searches for pages we want to view but just comes up with a white screen and the little search circle in the tabs bar continues to spin, but the page never loads.

We also have problems playing videos on YT and even on the Apple website (I can't view the iPhone 4 launch video :()

We don't have this problem anywhere else we use our macbooks on a wireless network and we have an o2 mobile dongle which also works fine.

We have tried various web browsers as well to try to eliminate the problem (Safari, Firefox & Google Chrome) but i am at a loss so I turn to you for help.

Is this a problem with my ISP or something wrong with the airport hub or the macbooks themselves?

    Cheers.

    Next time it happens:

    1. Reboot the router. See if that helps.

    If that doesn't....

    2. Connect directly to the router via Ethernet.

    Report back.

Given that it's two laptops having the same problem and that both laptops work fine on other networks, I'd suspect the common elements (wireless network, router, ISP).

Sounds like an ISP issue - it should only be an issue with the routers modem if you had restrictive settings in place (did you change anything recently?).

You could try changing the DNS settings on your modem - use Open DNS (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) or Google (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) and see if things are different.
